Hip shooting games anyone??

After turning an 870 Express into an 18" home defense gun with a pistol grip, my son and I got to thinking that it would be fun (and even useful) to teach ourselves to break clays shooting from the hip. I can get #8 shot skeet loads cheaply, and by progressing from ringing suspended gongs to thrown clay birds, a particularly challenging game could be developed. No holding the gun above lower ribcage height allowed. Only 18-20 inch barrels allowed. Riot-type guns with extended mags OK. No tac-lights or laser aiming devices permitted. Screw-in chokes useful and acceptable. Is anything out there like this now?

Don't know if there is any formal games, but I average about 80%-85% from the hip on the skeet range, trap range is about 70%. This is with assorted shotguns, but nothing shorter than a 25" barrel. I have yet to run a straight 25 on skeet, but I can't count the number of 24s that I have shot from the hip. It's always that one target. :banghead:

I only do this to play, most of my shooting is shouldered gun.

Aaahhh,the fun kind of shooting.!

I haven't tried hip shots at clays,but do hip shoot the steel at cas shoots if they are close enough..which they usually are.
Here's a non hipshot that was fun anyway!

One local gun range runs a shoot every year that they call the "Turkey Shoot." One of the competitions is a game where you shoot a steel target with a shotgun from the hip. When it falls, a clay bird flips up from a tray behind it. Then you break the clay. If you manage to do it, you win a turkey.

I'm like kudu - about 80% - 85% on the skeet range.
I have shot some trap...never hip shot it though.
I have taken doves, quail , rabbits, raccoons , squirrels, snakes and ducks from the hip...

I did get one straight at skeet . Used a 28 ga. I had been shooting pretty much nothing but my Citori with the 28 ga bbls....12 ga and 20 best is 24.
Humility is hip shoting a .410...I'll take a 21 and be proud of it.
