I have some primed brass with a headstamp that has an "HP", "7.62x51", and two little asterisk thingies on it. It's berdan primed. It's suppose to be non-corrosive. Can anyone verify that?

It also has some green sealant stuff on the primer. I plan on loading these and shooting them in a PTR-91, but after checking PTR's website, Hirtenberger is listed as some of the ammo that they recommend not shooting because it uses a tar sealant or something that messes the gun up where it won't cycle properly. I used to have some south african surplus ammo that wouldn't cycle in this gun, but it seems like I read that the sealant was on the bullet instead of the primer. So does anyone know if this brass will cycle, or will it clog it up like the South African stuff?

thanks

It'll work just fine.

Without the manufacture date, it will be hard to tell 100% anything about the priming but on a whole, much of Hirtenberger is non-corrosive.

As for the 'tar' problem, the PTR will cycle this stuff, but the operator does have to be smarter than the tar that's left behind in his rifle!

The PTR folks have had many rifles returned due to operator ignorance, IF your going to use a 'dirty' type ammo in your rifle, then your going to have to clean it when it stops working, which will be much sooner than if you used a cleaner ammo, right.
PTR gets many rifles back that are labeled defective by the customer, that are simply gunked up, and dirty!

And often times, these same people do not know how to properly clean the intricate parts of the rifle, or the gas system....we get rifles in here that, if you listened to the customer rant about "this POS", and how this POS is defective, you would be amazed how well that same POS rifle works after a thorough, and simple cleaning!

Besides, if your reloading the brass you mention, just don't seal your bullets with tar....or any other type of cartridge sealant! hehehehe

Hirt ammo is made both berdan and boxer primed. Have never heard of any of it being corrosive. Good ammo and brass, but REALLY small flash holes in them.
