History of Gun Control in the US

What exactly is the history of federal gun control in the United States?

The major cases.


I am aware of National Firearms Act of 1934, the '68 gun control act, and the 1994 assault weapons ban. Are there other major gun control acts that were passed and what were they? Is there a good site that goes through the history os federal gun restriction in the US? Thank you.

Bum, you hit the nail on the head for legislative acts (with various amendments) 34 and 68 are the keystones. The 94 AWB (hopefully to sunset come Sept... I'll believe it when I see it) being the latest.
A couple of onerous Executive orders have added bits and pieces... Bush I EBR import ban, Clinton's Norinco handgun and now Bush II's Norinco anything (2 year time frame I believe) as well, but that's Executive not Legislative and those can only be undone by another E.O. (not very likely).

Seems to be about every thirty years things get whittled down a bit more (but there's no infringement... that'd be un-Constitutional... and wrong)
