The U of U school newspaper is running a poll about guns on campus. It's on the left side of the page.

Friday (9-8-06) the State Supreme Court has decide the U doesn't have the power to ban gun on campus. The University is still breaking the law and needs to follow it. The U has threatened to expell any student found carrying.

This has been posted on several pro-2A websites, we are trying to light it up! Help us out!

Make that 90% because I just voted. I voted for "I plan to carry one on campus " even though I will never visit that campus. I hope I didnt invalidate the poll. :uhoh:

Interesting, the syntax of the last choice, "I could care less," is wrong. It should be, "I couldn't care less."

odly enough at this lil place called Purdue University, you can be expelled if you have a toy guy, air soft, fake gun, or real gun in your room regardless of who brought it in, if you or that person has a permit, or any other logical excuse.

and no one is debating it.

I'm not sure that it's appropriate outside of the universtity community to participate in the poll. Send brief well reasoned letters to the editor.

Check out this nasty op-ed piece that is also on that page.
Who was it that said freedom of speech is a great thing because it saves us from having to guess who the idiots are? Case in point ...

On a related note ... can one of the attorneys who frequent this board kindly help me understand why the university, a creature of the state, gets to appeal a state law governing matters taking place within the state ... to the Federal court? I don't see how the Federal court has any jurisdiction whatsoever, but then ... I'm not a lawyer.

I voted:

I'm threatened by their presence.

simply put there is no reason one should be allowed to have a firearm on campus. you are not there to kill, rather, you are there to learn.
folks this is america guns should be used for hunting. they should be limited to single shot rifles, and shotguns.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :neener: :neener:   just playin!!! LOL

I did vote: I plan to carry.

Even though I go to the UW school system.

The anti's are loosing this one!! :)

Haha I got a kick out of that editorial. I don't think it's coincidence that the only pro-gun opinion piece on the site displays the type of attitude that most gun owners do NOT approve of. I wonder what the editor's opinion of guns is

You really had me going there for a minute!

I carried to class today. There's no law against it where I live, correct me if I am wrong.

nice that they include a link under "contacts"

re: Guns on campus.

First off, how about framing the question in an intellectually honest manner?

The prospect of a gun in the hands of a criminal, on-campus or off, is an entirely different proposition from that of a law-abiding citizen in legal possession of, and responsibly carrying in accordance with the law.

Secondly, how one "feels" about this law, or any other, is a side issue. Individual people can rationalize nearly anything.

The more relevant question, perhaps, is:

Should the University of Utah follow the law?
