My new (1989) springfield P9 9mm is hitting 2" low at 50 ft with 115 grn factory FMJ's. It is a fixed sight gun with dovetailed front and rear sights.

As I remember it, I can raise the rear (hard) file down the front sight (not to hard) or move to heavier bullets (very easy) to get the point of aim up a bit.

Did I miss anything or is that about it?

What do you want as your preferred "load of choice"? If it's the 115-grain, go ahead and take the front sight down, a smidgin at a time and while at the range. Otherwise, just make a point of remembering what load you're using, if you also commonly use heavier bullets.

If when you shoot, are you using a six oclock hold on the target and shooting low , if so use a center hold on the bullseye. This should bring the group up some. But 2 in. low in a DEFENSIVE FIREARM is still pretty good. Another thing are you shooting from a sandbag , or two handed or one handed, all can give different results . Play with different loads , holds or distances before filing , it costs less than a new sight.

I was aiming at the top of a midway target to get the holes in the center. This is not a defensive gun, just a range toy. I think I will experiment with 124 grn fmj's and see if I can come up with a load that will work, but otherwise I will bring the file along someday and fix the front sight.

Thanks for the advice.
