Hey Boys,
I was at the range earlier this evening and some mope in the pro shop was telling the manager that Heckler & Koch is phasing out their older USP line now that the newer P2000 series has been established. Is there any truth to this? I hope not as I just don't think too much of the P2000 pistols. On the other hand, I think USPs are wonderful handguns.

I heard something along those lines last year. It was also at a gunshop. Don't know how true it is, or if it's a line used by some shops that don't stock alot of HK products. I do believe that the P7 is being discontinued this year though, but I'm not 100% certain if that is true just for the U.S. market or all together.

Girls have the salon, boys have the gun shop. There is a lot of BS told in gun shops. I would not think that the USP would be phased out for an unproven model. I looked it up on HKpro and the same BS was stated. Most there think it is gun shop talk, as do I. The USP is is too good a gun to be phased out.

No, it isn't being phased out. In fact, they just released an updated version for this year - they changed the firing pin design to prevent breakage. Now, I have heard that they are changing the frame style to have standard sized rails instead of their propietary ones on the USP - If that is true, U may be able to get the guns w/ the old style rails cheaper when they do the transition.

Guys,
I bought an HK USP .40 S&W years ago and have had the strangest little love affair with it. It's kinda like the relationship a wealthy man whose been married for 20 years has with his mistress. Wouldn't allow her to break up my marriage with LBC/STI/Glock, but if SHTF, I be running for her first!

Updated USP - Shipwreck

Shipwreck - if they are/have updated the USP, do you know how to tell if it is an updated version. I am planning on purchasing one on the 17th of this month. I would hate to pay the $750 on an old style...

Well, there are date codes on the slide - 2 letters. But the easiest way is to look on the grip on the left side of the gun.

Prev, it had letters saying: HK USP

Now, the newest version only says USP on the left grip panel area. There are no "HK" letters in front of it.

I got one a few weeks ago, and it is the updated version.

Here is the old:

And here is the new (a pic of mine):

If it were true, the boys over at HKPro would be all over it.
I also have a new style USP 9mm. After a break in period for the trigger, it is quickly becoming my best shooter, passing up my Sig P226ST .40 and running neck and neck with my Glock 17L longslide.
It is also noticably softer in recoil.

I think the changes to the USP line will occur after the HK45 is released. Whether or not it wins the Army contract as the replacement for Mk23, it's improved features will most likely effect all future HK pistols. Current models should then be available at a substantial discount.

Now HK has been adding to the line w/ the P2000 & now the P3000...just more HK's to buy!
I wouldn't worry about the USPs being phased out, there have been rumors of the P7 being discontinued for more than a decade until they finally got around to it...

The fullsize USP is not being phased out. HK doesn't have a full line up of pistols w/o the USP. The Compact maybe, since it's about same size as P2000, but even the new P30 (used to be called P3000) is a compact pistol, not a full size. Unless HK doesn't want a fullsize pistol in its lineup, the USP will continue on.

As for the USP frame/slide change, HK wanted to put HK-JS (hunting/sporting) marking on the gun, maybe to limit liability of the HK company. The new "USP" lettering really looks ugly IMO. The new firingpin is great, but otherwise the USP hasn't changed much.

There's not much of momentum for the HK45. The Army has officially pulled out of requisition for a .45acp, so what you have left is USSOCOM's demand for a .45acp, and that's not much.

I meant the USP on the frame, I don't know why HK felt the need to remove HK from the frame itself. It was just fine as is. Note the weird crook in that "S".

As much as I like my USPc, I like my P2000 even more. The trigger is smoother and I like the HE finish on it.

Still, the decockers on both guns scare me because they're so violent. I like the Sig decocker because you can ride it down instead of going in one swift motion.
