HK PS9 Value (Inherited)

Hi guys. I just picked up an HK PS9 that was passed on to me by a family member. I was curious what kind of value that these have.

They don't make them anymore, but it seems to be way ahead of its time, being that it was built in the 70's. Was HK the first manufacturer to use a polymer frame? I've read it is a very smooth shooting gun, even in the .45acp version.

Very nice condition it appears. Your P9S was made in 1980, according to the code date. I predict these are going to be real collector guns because of the unique recoil system. I'd put it away if I were you.

They used to command higher prices but bunches were imported the last couple years as rade-ins dropping the values on the 9mm ones. Figure $700 and go up from there depending on condition, etc. That box looks in great condition as does the manual. The rest of the paperwork would add a bit too. as good of shape as that one looks to be in and the condition of the rest of the items, I'd say $750-$775. $800 if the rest of the papers are there. Were it a 45 ACP one, add a couple hundred.
They're excelleant pistols. Fantastic triggers. Before using it though check and maybe replace the buffer. They're not so scarce to not be shot if they have already been used. Got one of each chambering myself.

As far as I can remember or tell, yes H&K were the first to mass market a polymer covered (steel) frame handgun (someone else chime in if I am in error). Got that funky delayed/retarded roller blowback action that came from one of their rifle designs (maybe the polymer concept was borrowed from that as well... I dunno). Accurate too.

Hk was the first to market a polymer handgun but it wasn't this model. It was the VP70 series models. The VP70Z was the commercial one. Odd looking and a heavy trigger caused it some lacking sales but it's design and use of polymer got it a lot of attention.

The P9S is a good pistol. I work for an agency that used to let us carry almost any pistol for duty use, and some of the guys used the P9S in .45; one even carried a VP70Z! I and a few others carried the P7. This was in the 1980's, and the exchange rate was good for a while, so these German pistols were favorably priced.

Yeah. I heard they are real nice to shoot. I doubt that it has more than a hundred rounds through it. My uncle didn't shoot much at all. He bought his guns for self-defense and hunting with his son. He just never had occasion to do much of either. (Gratefully for the former!)

So I haven't decided if I am going to shoot this one or not. I'm really tempted to. I don't have any 9mms and everyone comments on how nice they are to shoot - especially the .45acp considering thre recoil of other handguns.

I really don't know what to do here. Until I am absolutely sure, it is going to sit safe in the box though.
