Does anyone else think the now defunct HK XM8 is a really awesome looking rifle?

I wish HK would continue this project and release a civilian model, though I know that's a fantasy. The G36 just isn't as groovy lookin IMO

I would have preferred a stock G-36 to the space gun stylings, though after putting some rounds through a G-36, I'd prefer my issue M4 to either.

A civilian version would be nice, but with the threat of AWBII looming, with a Democrat controlled Congress, I'd doubt HK would be at all interested in investing the effort.

HK has never invested any effort into the civillian market at all, ever. AWB II and the Democrats don't have any bearing on it. We went through the greatest period of EBR sales in history, with other companies gearing up and bringing new rifles to market (FN, Sig, KelTec, Robarm) and HK still did squat. AR15s have become the best selling rifle there is, with about a dozen companies cranking them out as fast as they can make them.

Good looking? No.

Actually, it looks like they did everything possible to make it hard to add tactical doodads to it, which is the exact opposite of the general trend in military weapons design. Maybe only the T&E rifles and prototypes were designed that way, but I always found that to be curious.

Cor, it was designed to take accesories. See those little round holes in the front end? Those took special HK only accesories. That went over really well. "Sure, so we have to throw away every mounting system and light and laser and accesory we have in our inventory and use your stuff instead... hookay then..."

But it doesn't matter, because our gun is on the cover of the Rainbow Six video games. Look how cool that SEAL coming out of the water looks... If you buy a $2,000 SOCOM, you will be that cool of an operator too. And chicks will dig you.

At HK, we stuck a piston on an AR15, just like a bunch of other companies have done, dating back to about 1969. However ours is better, because we refuse to sell it to civillians. Because you suck, and we hate you.

Our XM8 is the greatest rifle ever developed. It may melt, and it doesn't fit any accesories known to man, but that is your fault. If you were a real operator, you would love it. Once again, look at Rainbow Six, that G36 sure is cool isn't it? Yeah, you know you want one.

And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans don't need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus we've fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you don't believe us, it is because you aren't a real operator.

By the way, our cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns like the G3 and MP5 are the bestest things ever, and totally worth asinine scalpers prices, but note that cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns from other countries are commie garbage. Not that it matters, because you're civillians, so we won't sell them to you anyway. Because you suck, and we hate you, but we know you'll be back. We can beat you down like a trailer park wife, but you'll come back, you always do.

But where do you mount an optic, if...you know...you decided to use something other than the [strike]craptastical[/strike] err, ubercool optic that came with it from our betters at HK? That swoopy arch thingy seems to be in the way of almost everything, and the "rear sight tower", for want of a better term, is sticking up in your face. Did both of those come off, too? Or are you just forced to live with it, because you suck?

HK: Our rifle will melt in your unworthy hands. We built it that way, because we hate you.

Overall, I think it's a great looking rifle. I have seen the demo video and it looks cool to me! The buttstock might need a bit of reshaping,it looks like a human foot to me!
