I'm mulling over getting a Hk45 and was wondering how the grip size(and comfort) is in comparison to the XDM 45 and the MP45. None of my local gun dealers carry the HK45, so I can't fondle one. I've held the XDM 45 and the MP45 and they both fit my hands quite well. I've also held the USP 45 and the grip size was to big for me, as I have small hands and a short trigger finger. Any help would be appreciated.

The HK 45 is a great pistol. It feels great in the hand and is as accurate as semi custom 1911s.

By the way, what part of Alaska are you in? I'm in Fairbanks, and I know Sportsman's Wearhouse is an authorized HK dealer.

You know the part in Christmas Story when Ralphie says, " the soft glow of electric sex in the window" about the leg lamp. Kinda like that but in your hands. Hope that sums it up a bit. If you cant find an HK45 to fondle maybe a P30 might be more accessible. Damn near same grip ( 45, little bit larger)

Thanks for the responses. I live on the Kenai Pen and the nearest Sportsmans is 150mi away. I like the looks of the Hk45 a lot more than the xdm and the M&P, and will try to fondle one the next chance I get.

Once you handle one you instantly feel how well made they are. My uncle picked up one years ago and I was amazed. The thing feels like a tank. Certainly can stand hard abuse.

The HK45 fits my small hands better than the USP45. However, the HK45C is the perfect fit for me with a "slim-line grip profile" with interchangeable back straps. The HK45 has interchangeable back straps and the grip proflie is called the ERGO grip profile. You must handle each. I wish you could rent each and fire them. You will be amazed at the "soft" shooting feel of these two guns. Not being a trigger connoisseur, the trigger on my 45C is really good for me in both SA and DA. It is much better than the HK P30 DA/SA, imo.

The HK45 is a great platform. Mine is as accurate as all my 1911s with the exception on my Ed Brown. The SA trigger is very good, but the DA pull has a lot of creep in it.

The ergonomics of the HK45 is very good. HK did a good job with this handgun. This is one of those handguns I will never sell.

I've never held the other two pistols you mentioned, but the HK45 grip is very close to a 1911 with wood grips. I did some measurements with string and the grip circumference is almost identical to my 1911 with standard wood grips. Trigger reach is actually a little shorter in the SA mode, a little longer in DA of course.
The safety/decocker sits a little higher than the safety on a 1911, but it's a much easier reach for me than the USP .45.
The HK45 is a great gun.

I think it's one of the finest combat 45s ever made. I've got a bunch of USPs too, and the HK45 grip is friendlier for smaller hands - especially with the smaller insert.

Thanks for the responses, I got the information I needed. I'm beginning to really develop an "itch" for the HK45, now:D.
