Review: HK45?

I am probably going to be purchasing a new pistol soon. However, there are a few requirements, it has to have a decocker and hammer (not my choice). Which leaves out the gun I'd like to get, the Springfield XD in .45.

My choices are:

1.) Sig
2.) Beretta
3.) HK
4.) Smith & Wesson (not M&P, no decocker)


I have very small hands, and all of the Sig's that I can choose are bigger gripped, so not good for me. I am looking for something in .45

So I guess, does anyone have any knowledge/review or use with the new HK45?

I love mine.
sure there are smaller weapons out there. ones that sit lower in the hand. ones that are cheaper. but the hk45 just seems well thought out with many of the details I find important.
it's not a small weapon but it works well.

If you've got small hands, I don't know if you'd like the HK45. I've got medium hands and it's still a little big for me. I've got a USPc that, with a Hogue grip, fills my hand very well; you may want to try it yourself. I've also heard a rumor that eventually they'll be coming out with a HK45 Compact, so that may be worth waiting for. The Beretta also felt a tiny bit large in my hands, although again adding a Hogue grip helped out a lot.

Thanks. There already is the HK45 Compact out, I think they just make the grip shorter, not smaller.

Someone tried the HK45 online website, but there pretty biased.

I used to have a HK USP, but that's a lot bigger then the new HK45.

Man, I wish I could just use a Springfield XD. So sad.

Go take a look at the new FNP45, it comes with two backstraps, the one on the gun when you get it is arched (bigger) and it comes with a slim backstrap for smaller hands. I think I will probably leave the larger one on because I like the position of my finger on the trigger when it is on..However the smaller one may be perfect for you with smaller hands. I just picked mine up this weekend for $591.00 out the door. The FN handgun is very nice,has decocker, DA/SA, loaded chamber indicator, ambi mag release. It comes in all black or black/Stainless. Check it out....worth a look........

Newbie here!

Hi fellas - Just wanted to say hello. I joined the forum this morning so I could learn all I can about 45 cal automatics. After much research I narrowed my choices down to:
SIG P220
SIG P220 Carry
HK45
HK45c
HK45 USP CT
It was now time to go to the local stores and see how they felt in my hand. First impression of the P220 was nice. Felt good and solid. I was not impressed with the feel of the P220 Carry so I shelved it. I asked to see the HK USP compact Tactical. It was nice but I am not going to ever use a suppressor so I thought it was not the gun for me. I picked up the HK45 and immediately fell in love! The way the grip fit into my hand was as if it was custom fabricated for me. I have what I would consider medium size hands. The HK45 was smaller than I thought it would be. I asked for the P220 back and put the P220 in my left hand and the HK45 in my right hand. The decision was made by the weight alone. The P220 went back into the shelf for good! The HK45 was very much lighter than the P220.

At that point I was so in love with this piece that I thought I would cream my pants when I grabbed the HK45c. I grabbed it and my whole world collapsed! What a complete let-down. The grip was so different that I just couldn't get past it. If only they had incorporated the same grip on the HK45c as they did with the HK45 the sales register would have rung right there.

I guess my dilemma now is down to one issue. Since the gun will be used for home defense, range duty and my CCW I have to make a decision. The home defense issue is not a problem since the 1/2" extra length is a mute point inside the house. The range issue is actually favoring the longer HK45 so that isn't a problem. The only remaining problem is concealment. The HK45 is definitely light enough for me and it can easily be concealed from October through May. This leaves June - September with, if you really think about it just July and August an issue. So if I can get past this and noodle out a good way to carry it during the light clothing months I think the HK45 is my choice.
Local cost of HK45 = $1080
Local cost of HK45c = $1030

Any ideas you have about concealment would be greatly appreciated.
