It's been almost a month since I bought my first gun, a walther pps. Now that I have been shooting it and getting comfortable I am going to start carrying it. I am going to buy a holster here soon and was thinking about carrying at six o'clock. Does that mean I buy a left handed holster if I'm right handed

If you're talking about what I think you are, what you want is called a small of the back holster, commonly called SOB or MOB carry. If you haven't tried carrying this way before, I'd test it out because most people I come across find it uncomfortable and that it has several disadvantages (particularly regarding accessibility while sitting and retention). However, other people swear by it so I'm not going to completely knock it. Anyway, if you are deadset on this method of carry, this holster is going to be as good as any other on the market http://www.holsters.org/sob2-holster.htm . I carry in one of Andy's covert 28 holsters and his work is absolutely fantastic, I haven't had a single complaint to report yet. However, it's going to take awhile to get one (the wait for me was something like 5 months if I recall correctly), but any quality leather holster is going to come with the same caveat. If you want something similar but want it quicker and aren't so concerned with having something of that high end, I believe Galco makes a pretty decent SOB holster too. Hope that helps.

Gator, may I suggest doing a little research on 6 o'clock or SOB carry before you move forward? More than a few people have shied away from it purely for safety reasons. I don't want to blow this out of proportion, but there have been some back injuries connected with falls. It bears looking into.

Also, I agree sob carry makes the gun harder to access. I used to carry at about 5 o'clock or 5:30. Over the past 12 or 13 years, though, my preference has gradually migrated towards 3-3:30.

Okay, to answer your original question, I initially carried 'reversed.' Meaning I used the left handed style. I think you'll find you want to stick to a right handed holster. Best bet is to try it out if possible.

I ordered a high noon holster already and am going to wear that around 4-5. Wearing at six was just an idea because I noticed that asking around allot of the guys that work at the gun shop carry there. Upon further research though it seems that guys either really like it or strongly don't care for it
