Need a holster for the M60 with 5" barrel. A Bianchi 5BHL would do fine, but evidently they are not yet in production for the five inch barrel length.

Anyone out there know of another possibility for a strong side J frame holster that will accomodate a five inch barrel?

TIA

The only thing I can think of is either a belt-slide type of holster where the barrel sticks out the bottom, or an old holster made for a 5" Colt Police Positive Special. You may find the answer in some gun show dealer's junk box.

Edited to add: You might check with Smith & Wesson's Customer Service Department ...

Thanks, OM. I have already stumbled onto a decent solution. Found a Bianchi 5BHL in the 'extra holster' box. This particular holster was designed for the M60 with three inch bbl. By cutting the closed end off, the 5" Model 60 fits quite nicely with about 2" of barrel extending past the end of the leather.

Will do real well for my local hunting trips and it does fit the revolver.

Sounds like a winner ... :)

I shop those "extra holsters" boxes all the time.

In fact I could start quite an extra holsters box all by myself ...

mod 60 holsters

i am retired now and this is the very first time i am in a forum-read it religiously but now need to send some info.i have a mod 60 w/5" barrel.sweetest rev ever.i carry on the place and off.i usally have two shot shells and then regular .38 or 357.i have a holster coming from mernickle leather made just for the rev.cross draw-works great for up and down on tractor/in truck and can cover easily.i have a retaing strap.i am also ordering a shoulder holster for the mod 60 5" from black hills leather.write or call rudy.he is great and has a great price.i used to carry my 637 but wanted a bit more.the mod 60 5" in will be my constant companion while hunting and camping.when you get upthere ,weight becomes a factor and so was pleased whn s& w brought out the new j frame.i hve a speed strip pouch from simpy rugged that works on the cross draw and sholder.my granddaughter helped me with this and she said i get a "c" minus but it was ok to send.best regards rancher

Howdy, rancher; and I really appreciate the information

I have a belt & holster & twin ammo pouch from Mernickle that I use with my Wilson CQB for IDPA competition. The Mernickle rig works quite well and I will check his website for info on a holster for the five inch Model 60.

I just got my Model 60 five inch about a month ago and have grown to like it very much. Like you, I am retired and make some kind of hunting trip on almost a daily basis. This time of year, groundhogs are the primary varmint on the agenda, but I have several farmer friends that depend on me to keep their ghog population under control.

Before I got the five inch revolver, I often carried a Model 60 with three inch barrel on these trips. Killed several groundhogs with it because I always had it with me. I believe the five inch barrel will work better for me due to the increased sight radius. Time will tell.

I'm getting along ok with the cutoff holster I described in a previous post, but the idea of a Mernickle crossdraw holster intrigues me. Will check it out.

Thanks. I really appreciate the suggestion. ;)
