Trying to decide on a holster for my new Springfield xd 9 with 4 inch barrel. I like the crossbreed supertuck, but then I saw the nra slide holster and wondered if I could ccw comfortably at a much cheaper price. I don't care if my holster is amazing looking I just want something comfortable that will retain the firearm untill it is time for me to pull it out. I prefer IWB but since I dont have much experience I will take other advice.

I have both. The Crossbreed is by far the more comfortable holster. I use the slide holster as a range holster and extra holster for those without one at our match. IMHO for CCW, the Supertuck is THE holster period. XD40 holster will hold a XD9, no problem.

Thats what I was assuming, and I may go for the supertuck. I am willing to pay for a quality product if it is worth it, and when it comes to this I believe 70~ is alright. Do you have the J or V clips also? I am thinking about the J because of the added stability.

+1 on the SuperTuck
I bought one for my XD 45 Compact going on 2 years ago, and never looked back. I have both the "J" and "V" hooks, and I tend to use the "V" hooks 9 times out of 10. I guess the SuperTuck is now shipping with belt clips made of spring steel instead of the kydex clips these days.

Also, if you haven't come across it yet - Otis did an amazing job with his home made version of the SuperTuck. He was kind enough to post pics and info on how to go about making one for yourself.

The new clips are awesome! I broke a couple of the old J clips and Mark replaced them ASAP with thicker Kydex ones. The new steel clips are great as well.

Bought only one IWB holster, Blade-Tech, works with all my XD's except the .45ACP. It's not pretty but functional, been using it for 4 yrs now and I wear it every day of the week.

don hume does make good holsters for sure, for iwb check out raven concealment and comp tac mtac, you can't go wrong with any of them.

So, does anyone have experience with the minimalist one that just covers the trigger guard? I will probably get the comp-tac but might buy the minimalist one untill I can easily spend that much.

I also think you might want one that also covers the slide all the up next to your skin. It really doesn't feel too good when you pinch the "luv handle" sitting down, and it keeps the sweat off the slide on those hot summer days.

Depending on attire, I'll carry my XD .45 compact in either a Galco SkyOps, Summer Comfort, or in a simple Galco slide. I'm not sure what model the slide was originally for.(I got it from my dad) All carry very comfortably, even with the full size mag in the gun. The Summer Comfort is the easiest to reholster. Plus it is easy to take on and off without removing my belt.
Just my 2 cents.

Get the MTAC!

I carry my XD45 Compact daily in a Comp-Tac MTAC. It is by far the most comfortable holster I've ever worn. It's design advantage over the Crossbreed is that the Kydex shell that holds the weapon can be changed in about a minute. For $38 you can buy a shell for a second gun rather than buying a complete rig for $80. :D
