Picking up a nice-looking 3" model 65 RB at the end of the month. I plan to keep it for strong-side discreet carry "now and then".

Which holsta?

Also, I don't really care for the original S&W grips. I want to replace them with some grips that aren't too small, but not too massive for my medium-sized hands. I want something that's just right for discreet carry that will still help me to handle the recoil of MOST .357 loads.

I'm not worried about maximum loads, though. What's the point in a 3-inch K-Frame?

My 65 came with Hogue grips, same style as pachmyer. Might try those, I sure do.

As far a holsta, I have never seen one, ever. However, if your looking for a holster, may I suggest a Bianchi, 5bhl or something similar. great for concealed carry.

Welcome to the forums, MonsterZero. A polite suggestion; Any type of abbreviations or slang that denote hip-hop-like or "gangsta" influence are very unpopular on this board. Misspellings and grammatical errors are mistakes we all make, but deliberate slaughter of the English language will often cause your posts to be ignored.

On that note, Bianchi, De Santis and Galco are the front runners in modern, high-quality holsters, and I would recommend Hogue grips to improve the feel of your gun.

Grips and holster

My apologies for any offense taken. My intent in the use of the word "holsta" was benign and tongue-in-cheek, a habit I've fallen into since I heard Rush say "let me ax you this". I consider it a way of making speech and writing a bit more informal.

Thanks for letting me know.

I still have a couple of choices to make regarding some nice, comfortable aftermarket grips and a good holster.

I have the same gun and I carry in a pancake holster from simplyrugged.com
The holster holds the gun high and tight, with a forward cant. The holster can also be reversed for cross draw use. I highly recommend this holster for comfort.

For grips, Pachmayer Decelerators or Presentation grips are good as are the Hogues if you don't like large grips.

Congrats as these are fine guns. Remember though that they were designed to shoot 158gr. rounds and not the 125's/110's. The forcing cone can be damaged (eventually) by a steady diet of the lighter, hotter rounds.

I really, really like the Pachmayr compact signature grips for 3" K-frames. A good high ride pancake (I have Don Hume and some local craftsmen. Check out John O'Rourke's work at www.gun-holsters.com

I've got a nice 65-3 and I've been searching for nice grips ever since I found this gem. Check out the workmanship at ahrendsgripsusa.com. If you like wood, with or without fingergrooves, I think these grips are the way to go. I'll post "after" pics, once I get them, for now, here's the "before". (3rd one over)

Hogues and Simply Rugged holsters are the way I fly. Houges are made from as "sticky" compound. It is not objectionable, but it can cause problems with a sports coat or other covering garment not wanting to slide down over it after kneeling to pray at church, or picking up a little kid, or with some kinds of work. If you get a Simply rugged holster, you will never look back. Rob is a great guy, and makes wonderfull holsters. Nothing fancy, or to costly, just "simply rugged".

I have a 3" S&W 65 and carry it in a DeSantis paddle holster or a Bianchi Scorpio shoulder holster. It came with Hogues and the original S&W grips but now has Pachmayers on it. Also as a side note if you want good concealable speed loaders check out Bianchi Speedstrips. You load two at a time and are a little slower than round speedloaders but they conceal better.

I had a 65 with some of the old Safariland combat grips and I loved them. I have sought them out and put them on 3 other handguns, but there wasn't the same magic for me.

I have a 64 with Pachmayr Presentation grips and I've been thinking of getting a set of Gripper grips for it since they aren't as fat. The presentation grips fit my hand so well and points naturally so I'm thinking hard before buying yet another set of grips!

El Paso Saddlery has a good high ride. Fits my 65 perfect, no loose play. Takes about 6-8 weeks to receive, since they make each one as ordered.
