I am shopping around for a holster for a 1911 platform (full frame) and I saw a holster that you had to use your index finger to depress a button to pull out the gun otherwise it would stay locked. What kind of holster is that? I remember seeing it at a gunshow and I cannot for the life of me remember the name.

I would be using a holster for open carry so if you guys could recommend something that would fit my needs please let me know :)

now i have seen the Serpa Holster that kind of has what im talking about, but i remember there was like..a paddle that you had to engage before pulling it out if that makes sense.

Did it look like this one?

This is a Blackhawk SERPA. (Not sure what the acronym stands for.) The one shown has belt loops, but they make a paddle one - as well as a combination of both - too.

Or like this?

This is the Bianchi #82 "CarryLok" holster. The little black tab behind the trigger guard is pushed to the rear as you draw.

All i remember was that it was black, not leather, and sort of identical to the SERPA, but instead of the button on the outside i think it was a paddle on the inside that fekt more comfortable using your middle finger using to disengage the lock but aligned your index finger along the frame of the pistol.

The one in the photo is a Blackhawk SERPA. It comes with both a belt and a paddle configuration for the same price. I use them for all my handguns. they do tend to stick further from the body than a pancake style holster but I love mine. I have heard stories about some of them getting dirty and the buttons sticking or breaking, but in the year - 2 years I have had and USED mine I have never haD any problems with my Glock,1911s,Sig, or my Beretta. you can find them at the following,

great holsters at a great price. good luck.

I have a Blackhawk Serpa for my Glock 17, and I really like it. Hitting the release tab almost becomes intuitive as you make your presentation. I've used it for about a year and a half and no problems so far; though as WOODROW stated, it does stick out from your body a bit more than some of my other holsters. The holster is very well constructed from quality materials, and your gun is extremely secure in it.
