If I might add one suggestion. The 2 1/2" and 3" K frames ride much nicer and print much less when the cylinder is placed above the belt line. It will place the barrel or bottom of the holster at the same level as the speedloader pouches and therefore easier to conceal.
Thanks for the comments. However, the reason I starting rolling my own is that just about every other commercial option out there rides too high for me. I couldn't find a holster I was happy with, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
As for printing, in my experience, the primary thing to be concerned about is the grip. When you're trying to conceal a short barrelled handgun, and you have a holster that rides so radically high above the belt that only the lower portion of the handgun/holster is getting support from the belt (even a quality gun belt), "holster flop" results, thus resulting in printing of the grip. This is especially true for those of us who have a little more in the midsection than the average mannequin. I can point you to the Galco Speed Master as an example in this category.
On the other hand, with a holster that's a bit more balanced above and below the belt line, the entire gun is benefitting from the belt working with the holster to tuck the whole package in. The Alessi QCQ/S is a perfect example for this category.
I conceal with baggy T-shirts, button-ups, or polo shirts. No issues with printing.
Again, this is just me. What works for one person may not work for another. That's why there are so many options out there. In my case, my option was to come up with something myself.
