Holy Bowling Balls Howitzer Batman?

Not a howitzer! I'm not sure I'd want to buy a cannon built by a guy who doesn't know the difference.

On the other hand, what could go wrong?:what:

Hmmm. Depends. A mortar barrel is typically less than 15 calibers long (e.g., a 6" bore that is less than 90" long), while a howitzer is between 15 and 25 calibers long (6" bore that is between 90" and 150" long). I did not see caliber or length specified in the link? Maybe I did not notice?

Don't know how wide a bowling ball is ....

Being a muzzle-loader does not automatically make it a mortar either. There were muzzle-loading howitzers from way back when up to the Civil War. Towed vs. base-plate does not make the difference either.

Quite aside from any hair-splitting ... I have totally got to get one of those!

Man, and I thought trolling all the auto shops for old wheelweights was a lot of work. Guess it would be worth it to add bowling alleys to the trapline. :D

ooo ooo i just found my new squirrel gun. i need one thats so awesome and looks cleanly built too

Actually, I thought a Howitzer designated a gun where the recoil was soaked up via a spring or pneumatic system, rather than simply rolling backwards when fired. Google tells me I'm wrong, so ... don't buy any cannons designed by me!:uhoh:

I think that the seller may just have been listing like-terms to attract more views. A lot of people do that. On craigslist (too bad they don't allow firearms, because they are CA based), some people even have an entire paragraph of "dvd blue-ray x-box ps3 cell phone blackberry guitar guitar hero game toy" etc, etc. Annoying, but common.

I am confused why is it not a howitzer ?

I may be wrong. It may not be a howitzer. How is a howitzer different?

I guessed as much. I called the local bowling alley and they said there was no way I was bringing this in. So much for bowling a perfect game.....

"uses black powder and smokeless"

A mixture? :uhoh: Count me out.

No one has commented on the legality of this contraption. I think it would attract unwanted attention from unwelcome visitors. :scrutiny:

Aside from that, where, and how often would you be able to operate that rig?

$14,000? Do you know how many martinis that would buy?:D

A muzzle-loading cannon is perfectly legal. They aren't even firearms by federal law.

There are active associations that practice and compete with vintage and replica artillery. Try: http://www.n-ssa.org/

A lot of the bowling ball mortars folks are showing on YouTube are usable on ranges of 500 yds or less.

BUYER CAN HAVE UP TO 200 BOWLING BALLS WITH THE HOWITZER.
Wow, even with 12-lb balls, that is an additional 2400 lbs. Plus the tow weight of the cannon...better bring the 1 ton dually.

Sure would make a great 4th of July toy, but at that price, a little rich for my blood.

So...how much does 200 bowling balls cost? I think that may be a large part of the 14k price tag...
