I have a commercial double stack IJ70 Makarov. It is a great pistol but the mags are non existant. The single stacks will work but a little wobbly.

Mine has never had any issues and I have been thinking about upgrading the grips to some Marschals.

I am a big Mak fan having an E.G., two Bulgarians, and a Russian Commercial in satin nickel, and .380.

Recently, I got two more pistols in the 9MM Mak caliber (P-83 Wanad), and while they are not the Pistolet Makarov (PM) they are good combloc examples.

Who in gods name said that?

It was my nephew. He's almost 10 years old now and likes Glocks and Spiderman. He said it about a tidal wave after the earthquake in Japan. He figured Spiderman with a Glock coulda stopped the wave.

JDGray I don't know anything about Makarovs though the one your brother sold you looks nice. However I am sorry for your loss. I will say a pray for you & your family.

I picked up a commercial PMM Russian model several years ago. I had never seen one before. It was all beat up & only came with a 10rd. magazine . I got it for $109.00 at a LGS. I was able to score 2-12rd.magazines from CDN if I remember right. Its still accurate &reliable as any of the Makarovs I have shot. With the 2 extra magazines & 1 in the chamber I have 35rds. This is a nice carry piece & has convinced a number of fokes to buy one when they got their CCP. The single stack model is easy to find magazines for, but the double stack magazines are much harder to find. Maybe with the opening up of a relationship with CUBA we will see some accessories & or guns become available, who knows. I think the CZ 82&83 will work for most who want a hi-cap gun that cannot find a PMM or the magazines. The single stack ( PM ) Makarovs are just fine though and I would be happy with one of them as well. Happy shooting!

Got a EG Mak many years ago... $105 bucks.

Now I see them for over $400.

Should have bought a case of them!

I'm not sure if there is any russian service maks in a U.S. most here is commercial maks with sport adjustable sights. I bought EG mak couple years ago for $400 1962 in like new condition. After some practice I was shooting 2 inch groups at 15 yards. Gun is definitely capable. Now it's my HD handgun.

An unknown number of Russian or Soviet era military Makarovs have made it into this country through Bulgaria and East Germany. I have examples of both, the 1976 has the Soviet Russia circle with the triangle in it and has Bulgaria stamped on it by the importer. My 1975 has the same Russian markings but has Germany stamped on it.

Mine is a Russian commercial model with adjustable rear sight in 380. I think I bought it in the late 80's or early 90's for $149. It has yet to jam even once ever. It's not a beautiful pistol or a fancy one, but it's very functional.

Who in gods name said that?

A Glock distributor, doubtless.

I have several Maks - EG, Bulgy, Soviet, plus the Czech and Polish 9x18. All are fun, reliable and surprisingly accurate.

Wasn't clear on the OP's post though - did he pick up a Glock, as the text infers, or a Mak, as the title infers.

great words
" a warrior will stand with only a glock in his hand while the rest retreat for shelter"

Sounds like the words of a fool to me.

And I like Glocks.

I have 5 9x18 pistols from a Russian, 2 Bulgarians and 2 Hungarians.

I really like the true Makarov better and it is deadly accurate as well as totally reliable. The Hungarians....not so much.

I am sorry also. I didn't realize. I have friends who have passed, and I still see their posts, and it does make me sad, but also glad to see they're not really gone.

I am going to close this out of respect to our departed member. Closed threads remain searchable and readable, so it is not a deletion. I am sorry for your loss.
