Homak vs Sentury safe/cabinet ?

Im seriously needing to get a cabinet/safe for my few guns.The instructor at my Basic pistol class i took last week suggeted a homak under 100 bucks. "If a person cant afford a real safe" ..But should i just hold off and wait a few weeks and get a sentury safe..To me they look alot better..Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes ,definitly hold off and go with Sentury , unless money is not an issue. Browning make a real nice one.

It depends on what you are trying to protect the guns from.

If you want the 3 year old to be separated from the guns, then the Homak is probably fine. If you don't bolt it down however, it is a convenient case for a thief to haul away all of your guns in.

If you are looking to keep your teen away from the guns, the Sentry might work. If you want to keep a professional thief away from the guns you will need something even more substantial. Fire rating adds more complication.

Homak 7-Gun Security Cabinet

i bought the same 7-gun (long gun) cabinet. installation was pretty straight-forward. bolted it to wall studs, and it does a good job of keeping the kid out. i'll probably upgrade to a higher end model w/a combination or keypad lock. but, this one fills the intermediate gap nicely.

My Homak kept a pro out, or at least a dang well-practiced amat. That said. I went a bought a real safe the day after we were burgled.

I saved up 200$ and picked up a Sentry 10-gun safe at Wal-Mart. I have not regretted it at all.

My Homak kept out a very determined burglar who had plenty of time and my power tools to work with while I was out of town. He did not get in, but he did damage the locks so bad that it took me 4 hours with my new power tools to get it opened. If I had not known how the locking mechanism worked, it would have taken me longer. Homak replaced the locks for $20.

get the 'real' safe later. you will always need room to store more guns & stuff

I'm glad I finally bit the bullet

on a Sentry safe at the Wally. Still, something's better than nothing if the cabinet is what's affordable right now. I do like the advice regarding bolting into the wall studs.

Remember that even a lightly-built safe of 200-300lbs. can easily weigh double that with your favorites inside. Stack the bottom of it with boxes of bullets if you're a reloader, and you really up the ante for a burlar's hernia.

All I can say is, 'you got lucky'. Your burglar might have had the time & determination, but he (or she) was certainly underepresented in the brains dept.

I'm not going to tell anyone how to open your type of container without permission, but I can tell you that it's pretty easy.
