I just use the standard 2-3/4" 00 buckshot. Recoil is manageable, therefore if a second shot is needed, which I doubt because most intruders (if they are still alive) will be running out of the house with brown stained underwear. Most situations for actual home defense will be not over 15 feet. A standard round will kill 99.9% of all knuclheads! How much more dead do you need? Dead is dead. BTW, I have taken shotgun defense and house clearing courses.

One other thing, if you did in fact shoot someone and had to face a jury, they sometimes frown on the so-called SPECIAL ammunition.

Use the same stuff you'd hunt with, in court you're not some thug hunting vigilante, you're just Average Joe protecting the homestead with what he had on hand.... right?

The "Flite Control" wad is a very significant advance in buckshot loads. It will keep your pattern much closer together out to much longer ranges. I see this as a distinct advantage for the outdoor shooter, maybe police/military use, or the hunter. For HD, you would have to live in some pretty big digs for that advantage to mean a lot to you. In fact I believe it could cause the average HD shooter to miss more frequently. Yes Virginia, you can miss with a shotgun at close range.
I will continue to use regular #4,#1, 0, 00, or 000 buck inside. I even have some 10 gauge 3.5" magnum 0000 loads.
Since the "flite Control" wads seem to cut the normal dispersion in half, they will put a really small size shot group down the hall, quite good with a solid hit, but also could make for a solid miss. You pays your money and...........
