Hmm. So now home invasions by teams of armed and armored men against an apparently innocent family (who still managed to get some shots off at the fleeing invaders) is only worthy of a yawn and a lock.

I guess my neighborhood isn't so bad after all.

I think a moderator may have determined there was insufficient information in the article to have any kind of rational discussion about the incident.

There is also a very strong theory among the mods that home invasions against innocent people are extremely rare.

They are also opposed to shooting at the home invaders as they are trying to escape.

then again their is the oft repeated "just because there was a gun used doesn't make it automatically a topic for here

I thought there was a worthy discussion point in the story - The perps got shot at as they fled and the police were ok with that.

I thought it was a wonderful example on the benefits of carrying while at home.

I know at least one friend who subscribes to the "keep guns and ammo in separate rooms" mindset.

I agree that there is insufficient info, though.

Were the home invaders wearing old surplus flak jackets, or Level IV Interceptor?

Did they have .25acp mouse gun, or rifles?

generally texas law is somewhat less restrictive in the use of deadly force than other states.

Stay away from illegal drugs and other extralegal activity, and you will vastly reduce your chances of being a victim of a home invasion or other violent crime.
Stay away from from stupid people who get drunk and hit each other and the places where they congregate, and you'll halve your chances of trouble in addition to your advice.

I fell Home Invasions is a very important topic and one that should be discussed!

I'm in the Texas DFW area and we have had Home Invasions by bad guys dressed like police and many more that did not go to that expense for the outfits. Just the thought of bad guys having your wife and children tied up and at least 8 hours to do what they will should really creep you out. If not then you need to rethink what could happen.

Is there a place on the web that shows where home invasions have happened? A map you could zoom in to and also the police report would really be nice. I know the info is public record so someone must have it on the web in a friendly to use format. If not then it might be a good project.

Come to think about it, what a great marketing tool for the alarm companies!

To me home invasions have a lot in common with burglary - people are getting in your house. It seems to me a lot of the cure is the same, keep them out. People asking a lot of questions on this board are directed to training training training. You can't knock training but training seems secondary to securing your house.

theotherwaldo,

It was clearly pointed out by both another member and Art in the thread that your original post was just a paste of a news story with no S&T discussion. "Hey didja hear about this news story..." with nothing about tactics or strategy to support it is not going to contribute anything.
