I really like the forge idea. But the rest of you are right in that forging for something in existence would be the prudent idea. What was the guys name that built a machine gun while in prison? Well anyway here I'll probably just blow myself up. So what's this "flint" thing you speak of? Oh, and I saw were they built a wooden cannon. Really kool. I'm off on my next adventure! Is there such a thing as a BP laser gun? Last, I used to play Porgy and Bess as 1st trombone in our High School Symphony. Thanks for the memory!

Like I said single shot wooden mortars.

Moving right along someone is bound to mention Gustav's Leather Guns. These were not made of leather but leather coated as it were. The barrels on the ones he used most were copper. They were tightly wound with layers of rope that was pitched and then a leather cover shrunken on the whole thing. They were for light charges and very low round counts. The advantage was they could be man portable to places no one expected any cannon to be. There were multiple models of the leather guns by different inventors all wanting the crown's money.

Not sure I would want to be an artillerist in the field testing the min/max round count on a rope and leather wrapped copper tube. The idea was that when that light weak bit of copper gave way the rope and leather contained the frags and blast. No thanks.
