The place that initially ran the ad was an NFA dealer and the ad was run in Utah, where NFA weapons are not prohibited. The owner was a bit flamboyant, to say the least.
 
Would be better and more realistic if it showed her using a shotgun or pistol, anything but a machine gun. Makes people see it more realistic and "I should get one just in case" instead of thinking "another action movie spoof". Funny ad though.
 
It's not about being realistic. It's about being remembered when thoughts of buying a gun come to mind. The commercial is just to get people in the doors of the store. If it gives them a laugh or a grin, then so much the better. A lot of the people in Bakersfield, where the store is, would not have a problem with someone being armed with a full auto combat rifle, and would think that the dirt bag portrayed was getting what he deserved. The kooks in California only infest the area near the coast.
