Homemade flamethrower

Hmmmm....

... reminds me of the neighborhood 'friends' of my long past yute(er, youth).

Had two such individuals that pondered about and then made a "home-made" bazooka from PVC and model rockets. IIRC correctly, it took them about 5 to 6 weeks to get the proper combination of engine to weight/payload balance. They even managed to cobb up a contact detination payload for the beastie.

BTW, one ended up being locked up for "controlled substances" later in life. The other drifted off to parts unknown.... that might have been a good thing.

I have always wanted to build one of these. This has simply fueled my fire, lol no pun intended there.

Hrm, in thinking about it, here's what I'd do differently...

1. I'd use a 1 gallon fuel cell.

2. I'd use a fuel pump rather than pressurize the whole system. You can get those for almost nothing, junkyard style.

3. I'd use real an fittings and stainless braided line. (Might be a little more pricey, but it is your butt this thing's strapped to, no?)

4. I'd use a heavy duty nozzle, or maybe a pressure washer nozzle.

5. Not sure about the ignitor yet, I'm still thinking about it. Maybe some sort of pilot light system... ;)

I was inspired so......

I built my own.

For the rocket: I did that myself with a booster stage rocket engine with delayed detonation via fuse imbedded in 2nd stage ignition area of engine. loads of fun! but used fireworks instead of explosives. For the launcher tube: Used a model rocket ignition remote, bonded to tube, for launch ignition. Really spiffy and looked real when painted od green.

Seriously, this has to be the very best comment of all. Not only is it unutterably true, but it just makes you want to pop your buttons, doesn't it?

You and bushmen have quelled my fears. I now no longer believe that ANY foreign power could maintain troops occupying our country. We'd have fire-shooting robots coming out of camouflaged bunkers all UP in their (uhhhh. . . kiesters?)

So true, my friend, so very true. It is a fine thing to be an American. :D

Edited in deference to Art's Grandmaw.

Flame will not leap back up the line, as there is lettle or no oxygen in the system to facilitate combustion.

Actually since he's running this thing off of compressed air, there is plenty of oxygen in the tank. There is just no spark and little oxygen in the lines. If he ever got a spark in the tank somehow, he'd be a dead man.

It'd be interesting if he added an adaptor and a valve or two and a PSI gauge that allowed you to screw in those 20OZ CO2 tanks used for paintball. Then he could skip the air compressor and reduce the risk of the tank exploding if the flame travelled back up the line. When the pressure in the tank gets low, recharging would be almost as simple as a magazine change on a pistol.

I figure that'd be pretty safe as long as you had a set cut off tank pressure and didn't go below that. Maybe some sort of regulator along the fuel line which closed off when you reach a certain set lower pressure?

how come I didn't think of that...

...back in my PVC days?

so cool.
SO COOL.

Rosie O'Donnel was going to have it banned until someone showed her it could cook an entire package of hot dogs in 4 seconds!:neener:

Ted Kennedy used to get the same result when he breathed on any match or lighter:neener:

I feel REALLY sorry for all the students at this kid's high-school who have called him a NERD:what:

I dunno...

about this. It might be useful to quell a home invasion, but I just don't see any value in it as a CCW piece. Tuckable holster?

I can't stop laughing! This may not be the smartest thing to make but it is durn cool. The kid has balls, gotta give him that. He's also got future super villian written all over him.

Still no IWB - can't use it... and I won't have a squad to "protect" me. One proper puncture and I'd be crypt toast.

Besides, it's heavy.

Now, a phaser I could understand. :D
