Homemade mini cannon

Just thought I would share my little cannon I made with a loading plunger. It’s a .36 caliber with a reamed “smooth” bore of .375 it’s not historically accurate but a fun little piece!

Cool. I've got one I made out of a 45-70 rifle barrel.



I've got a .69 caliber barrel but haven't done anything with it yet.

I'm ashamed to show mine. It broke the first mount that had sights. Broke this one too. Coated with Accura Glas, now. galvanized steel water pipe

It's probably a good thing that I no longer have access to a full machine shop anymore. I still have blueprints for a golf ball cannon and a bowling ball Cohern mortar.

Mine has been drilled out to take .454 balls.

Cannons were just a little too big for me to work on while at work. Plus the big bosses kinda frowned on us tool and die makers making cannons. I can't understand why.

We did make quite a few knives using worn out files though.

I built all mine years ago at trade school I’m not sure if that was a worse idea than to build it at work.

I went to machinist school while in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. No way would they have let us build cannons at school . Not to say we didn't get to work on howitzers or main tank guns while in school.

@243winxb - pray tell more about those tyres? Are they solid wood that were notched to give it the rubber look?

At least 40 years old wood. Fired with 3F 50 to 100 grs. Used a lead ball or just paper wadding for 4th of July.
