HOPKINS & ALLEN'S "THE AMERICAN MILITARY RIFLE." Just obtained this very unusual little boys' rifle (military training model?) and need help learning more about it historically.
From few sources available It seems H&A first offered "bolt action" single-shot rifles in 1909. Have found no production figures, nor and actual start/end date for them. One gun guide book rated them as "somewhat rare."
In my 78 years, and a lifetime of gun interest, I've never seen one before!
Very unusual and complicated rear sight; very neat little trapdoor in buttplate (probably for cleaning kit); unusual bolt release on top of receiver, and oddball, double-bend bolt handle.
Well stamped with model on top of barrel.
Works well except needs new locking tip on the bolt release lever, and the rear sling swivel is missing - otherwise complete and working.
Happy to have it in the collection, and would appreciate any historical anyone out there may have this little fellow. Thanks in advance.
