I have a Hopkins and Allen 44-40 Shotgun that I have had for several years and would like any information I can get. I got the shotgun from the orginal owner who has pass on. The only info that he gave me was that he bought it new and had never fired it. It is in perfect condition. It is a falling block with a three digit serial number. On the top of the barrel it reads- Hopkins & Allen Arms Co. Norwich, Conn. U.S.A. 44 Cal. Shot Gun. The overall length is 41 inches. I am new to this forum and I thank everyone in advance for your help. Joe

Hi. One, there's no ammo. It was chambered for the old black powder .44 XL shot shell, which was basically a .44-40 case with a wooden or paper shot container. Don't think I'd shoot it though.
H&A went bankrupt in 1916 and were mostly the makers of very low end pocket revolvers. Have a .32 S&W myself. H&A firearms basically have little or no collector interest(kind of a shame really. Not high end kit but still a part of history), but one in the condition you've described might have a bit. If you can find somebody who wants it.
