Hello,

I grabbed the wrong box of bullets and grabbed 150 grain round nose Hornadys for my 300 Win Mag and did not realize it until I got home. Ouch! So I decided to go ahead and try them but was wondering if some of you have any experience hunting with Round Nose bullets? If so what do you hunt with them? Also how do they perform? How accurate are they? What range are you comfortable with using them? How hard do they hit?

Truth be told I wanted longer range hunting bullets so this really is not what I wanted but trying to make lemonade...

Thanks,

Hornady in their #3 manual lists optimum m/v's on that bullet as 1,800-2,500 fps. It's an outstanding bullet for the .30/30 thru .30/40 Craig.
I'd recommed sticking to starting loads for some of the faster burning (read lower starting velocities.) powders.
This is not a particularily "soft" bullet, and being an "Interlock" bullet will hold together well even if "spanked" to a higher than normal launch speed.
The ballistic coefficient is a bit lower than the normal spitzer style but won't be that bad either.
With a start load you'll likely get a lower poi than normal. No problem. I usually use a similar load for hunting from stands in thicker areas and usually see a poa/poi load for 75-125yd distances. At these ranges, a normally +3"high impact .300 Magnum is converted to a .300 Savage w/poi-poa "woods" rifle with optimum performance and reduced recoil.

I do a similar treatment to my .300RUM, with a 165gr bullet at .300winmag speeds and lower trajectory and match grade accuracy accuracy for head shooting does on food plots where I don't want to where a "Weatherby"eye from a 180gr bullet @ 3,350.
