I located (finally) some of this new ammo from Hornady- a 190 grain subsonic round that expands reliably at velocities as low as 900 FPS. There is a video on you tube that demonstrates the performance in ballistic gel, the FBI requirements that it met, etc. I think I will try this on deer this season, in an area I hunt where visibility is 50 yards or less (I shot a 6 point there last winter at about 20 yards from a ground blind). The rifle I will be using is a Ruger American predator, with 16" barrel, a 4x scope, and a silencerco omega- which thus far has been firing 1" or less groups at 50 yards with both Hornady black (a 208 grain AMAX sub) as well as Remington 220 grain OTFB subs. Is anyone else here thinking about using this ammo for deer? Has anyone shot a critter yet with it? Another guy killed a large boar at 120 yards with it, and got a full pass-through, with the hog DRT (also on youtube). I think I probably need to try it on a possum or coyote first to get an "idea" of the damage that it will do- not really anything else around here I can legally kill prior to deer season.

I have my 300 BO built (random AR parts) and I am waiting on my stamp for a AAC SDN-6 that should be here before deer season. My first choice of ammunition is going to be to try the Hornady Sub-X load simply because its available and seems to be performing as advertised. If those don't work out for me I will probably hand-load some Maker Bullets or Lehigh Defense. If all else fails I will fall back to the tried and true Barnes 110 TAC-TX
