looking to load hornady 124 gr 9mm with hs-6 not finding data for this
anyone got a load or advise? I will be loading for a xd9 4in service,
Thanks

Your in luck Jo Jo. I have a ton of 9mm data for just about every bullet and powder listed. I use HS6 as well as Longshot for all my 9mm and .40 S&W loads, with excellent results I might add.
OK, here you are.

124 grain XTP
Minimum COAL is 1.060"
Powder: HS6 5.1 grains to 5.9 grains
Velocity: 900 fps. to 1050 fps.

Hogdon data seems to be hotter than what Hornady is listing. The data I provided above is Hornady.
Good luck!

thanks for info and your right different manuals show different max load data im
kinda new to this so i get confused on which manual to go by i guess as long as i stay
away from max its better are you happy with hs6 this is a new powder for me have used
w231 and unique. have reloaded tons of 12ga with red dot, green dot, but now getting into pistal thanks again for info

I load 124 gr Gold Dot at 1.08" sitting on 6.6grs of HS6. It shoots very well. 6.6grs is pretty hot, but I have gone as high as 7.

Note: Published data ranges between 6.6 and 6.8. Exceed at your own risk!

I really like the way HS6 performs. It provides a good dense load with pretty decent pressures considering the velocities, in my opinion. I made a pretty big mistake when loading some 147 gr. XTP's a while back, and inadvertantly went 1.1 grains over tha max. charge. Other than blowing the cob webs out of the Taurus PT111, everything was fine. They chronographed slightly higher than the listed max. charge by 50 fps., not much. So it doesn't seem to be a powder that will suddenly show a major pressure spike due 1 or 2 tenths of a grain. In fact Hogdon's site shows significantly higher charges as per application. Log on to site and compare it to those charge weights I provided.
Have fun and be safe!

thanks will start at starting load and see where it takes me I think I will
stay with hornady data for there xtp as they make that round. I do see hogdons data is hotter but I stick with hornadys for now maybe xtp
a little different.

I too am having trouble finding data for the Hornady 124g xtp for the 9mm. You said you might have the data I am looking for.
I need it to use with Win 231 powder.
My componets are
Hornady #35571 124gr XTP HP
Win 231 powder
Win primers
Mixed 9mm cases
I know this is an old post, but maybe you or someone is still looking.
Thanks

Has anyone who is loading Hornady bullets ever considered buying a Hornady Reloading manual?

Both sets I have give all kinds of data for all Hornady bullets, including that one!

I ain't going to continue wearing out the book bindings looking up data for everyone else on the internet!!

I apologize

Sorry rcmodel,
Did not mean to make you do anything you did not want to do. I am new to reloading, and had trouble locating info, and at the moment can't afford to buy manuals at this time. I just thought the HighRoad forum was a place where everybody helped everybody and you could ask for help if you needed it.
Again, I am Sorry

loads for hornady 124gr XTP

Per Hornady Manual 7th edition:

HS-6 starting load 5.1gr(900fps), max load 5.9gr(1050fps), C.O.L. 1.060"

For win231 you might want to start at 3.9gr and max at 4.4gr. This data is for a 125gr Jacketed Hollow Point with a C.O.L. of 1.075. Since it is not the exact bullet you are using(but very close), if you start at min. and work your way up(keeping an eye out for signs of excess pressure), you should be fine. This data is from the Lyman Pistol and Revolver Handbook Third Edition. Hope this helps. Even better, you can go to Hodgen.com and they list loading data for 231 with a 125gr jacketed hollow point that starts out at a higher load then lyman(almost at lymans max load). Do not go under the recommended C.O.L. as this can increase pressure and generally is not going to help any with accuracy.

You need to use XTP data, not JHP. The XTP is different animal and there is a reason it has it's own specific data. Which is why it's listed as such on Hodgdon's site. For 9mm they only list 147gr for some reason. But if you look at other cartridges you will see that XTPs always have their own load data.

When using a specific brand bullet just buy their manual. You get loads that were tested with that specific bullet. You don't get that anywhere else. They're less than $20. That is not a lot of money.

Yes, I own the latest edition. If people want Hornady bullet data the can break down and spend twenty six bucks like you and I did or they can go begging for it on message boards.
