I know I've seen a chart out there with a bunch of different brass headstamp comparing internal capacity but I can't seem to find it again.

Either way, I currently have loads using Winchester and Lapua headstamps for my .308.

I know that Lapua is heavier than the Win brass and has a smaller internal capacity.

Does anyone know where Hornady falls in the mix of things as far as internal capacity? If it's normally on the lighter end near Winchester or heavier towards Lapua or somewhere in the middle?

Appreciate it.

I think Frontier is Hornady, and if it is, then I think it will have significantly less internal capacity. Also check the neck thickness, that alone can create a pressure problem.

A few months back I was working up some loads for 7 mag using Frontier and Win, and pressures were really high on all the Frontier.

Maybe the person who pointed this out to me will be along to verify this, can't remember who it was.

Ok I weighed some brass tonight.

The Winchester brass weighed from 157-161.9.

Hornady match brass weighed around 167-169

Lapua brass weighed 173-174.

I'm thinking the loads I use in Lapua and Winchester, which is exactly the same, will be safe to use in the Hornady match brass.

Is my thinking off? I'm thinking that since the load is safe in Lapua, which is heavier brass, smaller internal capacity, will be safe in the Hornady brass which is lighter and a tad more capacity

I bought a box of 50 Hornady .308 Match brass, but then the Lapua became available and that is what I have been using.

My sticky note in the box says the necks are .0140 to .0147, and they weigh from 166.0 to 168.3 grs. Give or take a smidgeon.

My notes in my load book shows my Lapua brass necks at .0141 to .0150 & "about 172 Grs".

So yes, it will be safe, but it might need .1 Grs more powder to achieve the same velocity etc. Maybe. I would definitely start with the same load.

Awesome. That's what I was thinking.

I did notice that the velocity with the Lapua brass was faster than that of Win brass both both loads using same charge were the most accurate. I'm talking about a 10-15fps difference in MV by my notes I took
