I just got a Hornady Case feeder a couple of days ago that I added to my Hornady LNL AP press with ezject. I'm having some problems that I'm wondering if I got a bad unit or are they nothing but problems?

1) Case hits leading edge of shell plate, the cam wire is maxed out, adjusted left pawl and used and adjusted different V-blocks (a call to hornady said to try different v-blocks) and it still hits. :banghead:

2) rifle cases get jammed right before they drop into the tube, adjusted plate and no luck. :cuss:

I have been messing with this thing for 3 days and am 10 sec away from returning it

Please help, this thing would be great if it worked!

I added their case feeder to my LnL a couple of months ago and had a similar experience. I talked to support multiple times over a couple of weeks and just couldn't get it to work reliably.

All the problems, for me, were happening in that little funnel when the case drops out of the feeder.

Eventually I realized that the feeder worked great when I wasn't reloading, and the problems were being caused by a small amount of flex in the table my press is mounted to. That flex translated into enough of a shake at the case feeder that it was causing all kinds of problems.

I hadn't even considered that since I've been using that press with no problem for several years and have loaded 10s of thousands of rounds.

Anyway, I'm not sure if your problem is caused by the same thing - but I figured I should at least mention it.

In my case, I opted to tear the existing top off my workbench and replaced it with 3 layers of 3/4" plywood that I glued & screwed together. (Overkill anyone?) I then laminated the top using a sheet of Formica.

Now the table is rock solid and I haven't had a single issue since. The case feeder is now working 100% reliably.

I should have mentioned that I'm referring to your second problem. That obviously wouldn't make a difference to the case hitting the shell plate.

I know you mentioned you've adjusted the wire but I'd check that again....maybe go the other direction.
Initially I had that problem and just a micro adjustment cleared it right up.

The part of the case feeder you mention (shuttle) is very dialed in on mine now.

Patience young grasshopper... :D

i had to put more threads on the cam wire so it would go lower now the cases dont get there so early ...now it is smooth going in the shell plate

the shaking when loading messes up the cases i let the tube get full before i start and thet helps also with that

I have the case feeder on mine for 2+ years now. The only issues I have is with the brass getting pinched stopping the feed. This seams to be vibration related at time. No problem with it feeding brass to the shell plate. I did do a slight mode to mine. I made the pusher foot longer so it pushes at the bottom so it does not tip the brass. I also use a paper shroud to keep the brass from bouncing off the foot.

The paws have nothing to do with the case feeder, it's only setting is the wire that adjust the sled timing. If it early hitting the leading edge it's too low. Now there are different pushers for different caliber but those are not set in steel. I find the one for the 45acp works better for the 9mm. So you can use a pusher with a different profile to change the timing if needed.

The post on a good solid steady bench is a very good point.

I use mine for depriming brass for cleaning. Mine will feed as fast as I can run the ram up and down. Which is 200 piece of brass deprimed in <8min. So when every thing is right it will rock. It did take me some time to learn out to tweak for best performance.

Try a shallower V block, make sure the advance isn't timed too early. Is the case getting bumped by the spring and jamming, or just running into the plate?
