Hornady LNL AP EZject Problem

I’ve been loading with my new Hornady LNL AP for a couple of months now and I’m having a problem with the EZject System. Shells frequently get jammed in the EZject station and it locks up the shell plate. This happens 3-4 times out of every 10 rounds or so. So far I've loaded only the Hornady 155 gr XTP bullet in 40 S&W. I use mixed brass and any variances in the brand of brass doesn’t appear to be a factor. I thought it was a timing problem at first so I tried adjusting the pawls, which did not help. I finally called Hornady CS and they said it was not a timing problem. The only solution CS proposed was polishing the underside of the leading edges of the shell holder plate. I haven’t done any polishing and don’t think this is the problem. I’m thinking now it might be an out of spec shell plate or even base plate. Anyone had a similar problem with the EZject System?

I have run 380, 9MM, 38, 40, 45, 223 & 308 through my LNL and that has happened only 3 or 4 times. I just attributed it to one of those things that happen.
More often (About ten times) the cartridge starts to get wedged then pops out on the floor five feet away oddly enough that only happened with 45 (using shell plate #45).
3 to 4 out of 10 is way too many; I would call Hornady and talk to a different rep. I have spoken to two different guys there, both very helpful one just seemed more knowledgeable than the other.

I get a similar problem when I short stroke a pull. It doesnt take much. I would do it a lot when I first started reloading and I was just going to slow for the action.

Again I would just call tech support again. Forget the polishing idea and have them replace parts. I dont like modifying stuff out of spec.

Clean the shell plate and sub-plate with RemOil and wipe it dry.
The cases should fly off without binding.

No trouble with mine, but I have polished the sub-plate, eject button, and shell plates.

Removing any sharp edges on the shell plate can really help.

I had this problem with 45 ACP. I tried everything mentioned (except polishing the shellplate), and I finally found a bur on the EZ Ject bump on the subplate. I used a small file to remove the bur, and then a fine stone to smooth it all out. I, in no way, removed any metal that was supposed to be there. It works flawlessly now. The only trouble I have seen has been caused by the cartridge rim being chewed-up, and out of shape. It will give slight resistance, and then eject the cartridge. I have found nothing detrimental with these cases. If the case is too mangled, it doesn't even make it to the resizing station. I toss all questionable components. I hope you find the answer. When you do, please share it with us?

I agree with others above that you should call Hornady again for help. If they can't solve the problem over the phone, ask them to have the press sent back to them for whatever adjustments need to be made. They did this for me and I had the press back in 7 days working like a champ. As I told the rep, I'm not a tech nor a repair person and thats why I buy equipment made by reputable manufacturers. Hornady was great to deal with and assured me they would correct any issues.
