Those who use the New Dimension Dies, Do you use a crimp die like the lee or do the hornady do it well? how do you have the dies set up in the lock n load. also on the pistol rounds do you use the powder drop expanders or do you really need them thanks

I use the Hornady crimp die in .357/.38 and .45 ACP. It does a fine job, and I've never felt the need for a separate crimp die. I do not use the powder drop expander, since I don't use a separate crimp die, there's no need.

I only have one set of Hornady Dimmension dies; they are in 40 S&W. I have the crimp die set up to taper crimp and it does a good job. I know a lot of people swear by the Lee FCD but so far I haven't seen the need for one yet. However, I am not going to say never becaue I am getting ready to load .357 SIG and from what I have read is the FCD is the only way to go for that cartridge; we'll see.

I load 9mm, 357 mag, 40 S&W, 44 mag and 45 ACP. I use powder through expanders on each. On the 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP I use separate Hornady Taper Crimp dies.

Other manufacturers taper crimp dies WILL work but you have to use a Dremel tool to grind a clearance groove on the lip of the die to clear the LNL wire ejector. Hornady taper dies are a little shorter and clear the ejector wire.

I use a LEE undersize sizing die on 40 S&W. I use Redding dies on the 357 and 44 mag (They utilize a roll crimp)

thanks guys , I just ordered lee crimp dies in all my sizes and drop tubes, how much to you have to take off the lee dies to get them to clear, I have a lathe , so that isn't a problem .

Your not going to want to put that on a lathe. Just grind off enough to clear the wire on one side of the die. don't grind into the carbide ring. I use the crimp dies on some off my cals. and with different guns. Sometimes it works great other times it didn't help at all. Just try and see how you like it and just cause it didn't work for one gun doesn't mean it won't work for the next.
