Hornady Lock n Load AP ejection problem

He did, they told him to check for any burrs on the subplate. I checked the normal things for him first like making sure the shellplate was tight, case retainer spring was in good shape, lubed, etc.

I had the same problem as you. I call hornady and they sent me a new shell plate as they updated it. And this if for the number 16 shell plate

Here is the pic to show what they change.. Old shell plate is on the left, new on the right..

They change the radius on the edge of the shell plate..
Oh and the new shell plate had Hornady stamped in it.

Here is a pic of his tightened down #16 shellplate that he is placing .223 Remington brass cases into.

Is this the updated one?

It looks like the newest style. Deburr and polish the part that holds the brass.

The 90 Degree edge is bad about having burrs and being sharp.

Do you have a photo of the EZEject ejecting block on the base. If this has been rounded off or rough will cause problems too. Mine has some roughness and I had to clean it up.

My L-N-L ejects cases like that every once in a while, but my retaining spring has many kinks in it. The spring does not always get out of the way and when the case is ejected, the spring sends it back across the shell plate. (I m too cheap to replace the spring until it breaks.)

I think someone on the forum polished the leading edge of the spring slot in the base plate and maybe extended start of the slot a little. But, I have slept since I saw that.

I used a peice of steel rod the diameter of the little hole next to the EZ-ject stud (actualy the shaft from a dedeco dremel bit knockoff) and bent it, dremeled it, polished it, and otherwise fit it into place so it pops .223 sized rims out of the machine a little early. I remove it for larger rim sizes. Works like a charm. Need a small vice, hammer, mini file set, etc. and over a 1 hour period i made one that's held up for a few thousand rounds with no signs of trouble.

Hornady told me the machine was not meant to process empty .223 cases and ejecting onto the shell plate was normal in that situation. I modified the shell plate, machined a controlled round feed case pusher, and made the little ez-ject tab and it works as fast as I can pull the lever (which it should have done in the first place, IMO).

Thats actually a good idea anyway. I just setup my new ezject conversion and it has a rough feel when ejecting some brass so I will polish up those plates and check for burrs on the floor too.

I could not remember which forum I saw that LNL mod, thanks Walkalong.

I took my #1 shell plate, case retainer spring and some .308 / 30.06 over to try out on his press and it worked flawless. I did not have a #16 for him to try but I will try and show him that sub plate mod and see if he wants to try it, I know I will on mine.

I feel bad because I talked up the Hornady over the Dillon even though he has loaded several hundred on each of mine. He was on the fence and I pushed him over and now he is the one having the issues. :banghead:
