New to reloading and im trying to get my ducks in a row before i finish buying the rest of my gear. Will lee or redding dies fit a hornady lock n load single stage press?press is new in box still and bout 2 year old.what about the shellholder. Does it have to be a hornady or can it be a lee or other brand?the reason im asking iw cause the lees and other brands of dies seem quite a bit cheaper than the hornady and some come with the shellholder.if they do fit are there any issues i am going to run into that will make me want to hang myself.all my reloading will be rifle caliber.talk to me like a first grader on this lol.

Now a days, dies and shell holders are interchangeable between presses of current manufacturers. Lee, Hornady, Redding, Dillon, and RCBS all have the same design for their dies and shell holders. The Forester Co-Ax press may have a bit different shell holder, but I cannot say for certain. Forester dies will work on the other presses

Any 7/8"-14 dies will work. 50 BMG dies and dies for the Dillon SDB will not work in a 7/8"-14 threads per inch press.

Some of Lee die sets come with the shell holder, some don't. So make sure before you buy. No body else offers shell holders with their dies. You would have to buy them separately.

There are lots of opinions on Lee dies, good and bad. The dies themselves are good, in my opinion, but I do not like the lock rings.

With the LNL SS uses bushing to lock into the press. This is for quick change, works good. The press comes with a few to get you started. You will need a Shell Holder and Die Set for your caliber. Hornady dies are first class. I had a problem with Lee 9mm dies being to short in length the locking ring was not engaged and had to flip the not. Hornady has the best locking rings on their dies. Their drop down start bullet seater/crimper gets your fingers clear of the press sooner.

I have/had Lee RCBS and Hornady dies. I like the Hornady's the best. They all work....

I have lee dies on my Hornady. Yes you have to run them almost all the way in as the Hornady bushing is thick but it works on mine. I probably only have a thread or 2 on the lock nut but it works fine on 9mm.

I use a mix of Lee (sizing), Lyman (Expanding), Hornady (powder measure and seating) and Lee (taper crimp only) on my LNL AP. This is for 9mm and 45 ACP. no problems with die length or use.

RCBS and Lee shell holders do not work on the Hornady power trimmer. I had to open the holes up on all my shell holders. Man that sucked.

Just something to keep in mind down the road.

I found the 9mm Lee shell holder way to big. Matter O fact it works great on my 10mm. I ended up picking up an RCBS shell holder for the Lee 9mm dies. That was the only one I have ever had an issue with.
