So, were the brass shavings jamming it in the chamber?
I’ve seen some pretty chewed up brass from some gnarly ramps, but not in a repeatable malfunction sort of way. Especially not so severe as to jam it so hard the extractor slips the rim.
A cone wedged into another cone by the force of a dead blow, spring powered hammer on the other hand...
At any rate, go easy on the polish, only do the burrs and edges. Leave the hard coat as best you can. Aluminum is soft, the anodizing is the durable part.
