My 6.5x55mm (stock Howa 1500) gets below average results with 140gr SST bullets, about 3 moa with two powder and primer combinations. Just for comparisons sake I shoot 1 moa with 140gr Interlocks with both powders. That's probably my accuracy ceiling as a shooter right now anyway.

Has anyone tried both SSTs and A-max bullets in the same caliber and weight and gotten significantly different results? I know my rifle is a 6.5mm but that is pretty limiting so if you have actual experience with both bullets but in a different caliber I'd like to hear it too.

Thanks

My Swede Mauser sporter shoots 140 SST's and Sierra MK's into clover leaves at 100, with the same load of Reloader 22. The only change is the seating depth, and it's not very much. You have to measure on the ogive, not the tip of the bullet. I have dummies made of each one so I can set the die, then I check the first couple loads to verify the setting is on. I would try adjusting the seating depth in increments with the SST's and see if you can dial them in. I seem to have the best luck when the base of the bullet is right at the bottom of the shoulder. Mine has a long throated military barrel so the jump is considerable, but it still shoots incredible for being built in 1903. My last group I shot to double check everything with a new lot of brass was 3/4" at 200 with the 140 SST's Hope this helps, and good luck.
