I,m looking to get some .224" 55gn bullets. I've been looking at the Hornady SP and MidsouthSP. They look the same, is there any difference in performance?

Midsouth has 2 different ones, with and without cannelure. The one without the cannelure they call their premium. The BC is listed a little different but does it effect performance much?

I have some Midsouth HP that shot good but thought about trying something else if they work ok. They will be mostly for target practice and maybe coyote hunting if they expand alright. Any experience anyone has I would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm a fan of Midway dog town bullet's. But I would go as far to say they are probably the same company that makes bullet's for midsouth. I think it is nosler not 100% on that though. Any bullet should work for your need as long as its a SP or HP.

I use those Hornady 55 grain SP bullets in my plinking / multigun comp ammo. They reliably shoot 1.5 MOA groups, which I think is good enough for cheap bulk bullets.

The problem with house brand bullets is that you never know what you're going to get when you order more. You may end up having to develop your load again because the house brand switched suppliers.

Midway seems to be the exception, because they tell you which of their dog town bullets are Noslers. The rest of the mystery bullets, including the predictable RMR fanboy suggestions that seem to pop up in so many threads, are a total crapshoot.

Thanks for the replies. One question, with everything else equal does a cannelur make a difference in performance. I don't use a crimp.

IMO, cannelures generally degrade accuracy.
I've used the Hornady sp's both with and without. In my sampling, the ones w/o cannelures shot ~1/2", the ones with, 1.5-2". I was NOT HAPPY! I won't get the bulk Hornady 55gr Spt w/cannulure again, ever!
Some 60grn spt's Blems I got recently shoot ok. ~1" from a 3/8" accurate rifle. But, I got them to shoot deer, so 1/2moa isn't necessary.

I have had similar poor results with the Hornady cannelured SP's. I think the fact that the cannelure is so deep hurts balance.
