How about 100.00 for an express. A good deal and what to do with it?

There is a doctor I work with who I've talked about buying his old 870 Express from for 100.00. He really doesn't know too much about it except it hase some rust on it's barrel and a very small spot on it's receiver. The barrel is a longer barrel but I haven't seen the shotty yet so, I'm not sure the exact length. For now, if I get it, I plan on using it for a parts gun for the shotgun class I have comming up with Louis Awerbuck next month. I'm not sure what to do with it after that. I'd though about making it into an SBS after getting the legal approval first. I have an 18.5 in barrel that I could have cut down to 14 inches and then put a +1 on it. I could also put the 18.5 in barrel on it along with a +2 that I have lying around and use it for a trunk gun. Even if the gun has some rust on the barrel would 100.00 be a good price for a parts gun?

I'd say if the gun was in good condition and works reliably it's a steal. Light surface rust can be taken off, or recoated to your preferred finish. With a 18.5" barrel I'd say it'd be a great candidate as a backup shotgun to your 870HD.

I would buy that in a heartbeat. As for what to do with it, well, I don't know what you need in terms of firearms, but even if you don't need it I would buy and wait till I can use it for something.

I pretty much buy every 870 I find under $120.

Worst case is you have a beater around that you aren't afraid to loan out to a friend in need.

I'd snap that sucker up in a heartbeat. If you don't want it, give the doc my contact info........

I love the first couple of weeks after christmas, when the bills are coming in. I can get last year's waterfoul shotguns for a song and a dance. This is one of those deals.

Wow,

you guy are making me feel desparate. I'll give him a call to see when we can meet up. Until after the class, it'll be a parts gun but after that, who know what it'll turn into. I have a "tactical" shotgun but, I also what something old school too.

Well, I got off the phone with him a little while ago. He'll bring it over tomarrow after I get home from work to look at it and probably buy it. I'm looking forward to getting it. I can always sell it for what I paid for it if I don't find a use for it.

It's not an Express. It's a Wingmaster. I haven't seen it yet. Doc got side tracked tonight but, we both work 7a-7p in the ER tomarrow. He's going to bring it with him and leave it in the truck. I'll get to check it out after we get off. He told me it's chambered for 2-3/4in and that the serial number ends in "Z". Anyone have any input on this.

Thanks, Flip.

Well, I wouldn't say non-beater;). The rusted barred can be replaced and the small spot of rust on the receiver (as he calls it) can be worked out, I hope. I really don't have a need for a long barrel being as though I don't hunt. I'm really thinking along the lines as an old school HD shotgun. You know, a short wingmaster barrel with a bead sight and no extension. Just something I can hand off to my wife if need be and something I wouldn't mind taking with me on trips. I'll most definatley get it tomarrow and will post pics of the gun after I pick it up.

Thanks, Flip.

I'm with him......Buy, and if you don't like/need it...It will sell fast.
And with all the aftermarket parts...they are here to stay.

Dude, it still sounds like a hell of a deal. If you get it, and don't want it, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. Rust comes off with some elbow grease and spit, and a good wingmaster is easily worth the hundred bones.

p.s. - What do you do in the ER? I'm a paramedic, and I loves my ER crews. Especially the ones that keep up supplied with foods and drinks. ;)

I've be an RN for the last five years and, I still maintain my Texas Paramedic License. Before becomming an RN, I worked for 4.5 years full time for our 911 service here in town. Nothing really phases me anymore;).

A Wingmaster for $100 doesn't even phase you? I feel sorry for you. You must feel dead inside. LOL!

Enjoy that WM, very nice gun for hunting and clays. Should last the rest of your life as long as you take a minimun amount of care with it.
