Since one of the THR forums recently had a discussion over the use of a certain word and it was decreed that if this certain word was ever used again in a thread title that the entire thread would be summarily deleted without warning.
The word is porn or pornography, or any of it's hip spellings.
Merriam Webster defines it as:
Main Entry: por·nog·ra·phy
Pronunciation: -fE
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek pornographos, adjective, writing about prostitutes, from pornE prostitute + graphein to write; akin to Greek pernanai to sell, poros journey -- more at FARE, CARVE
1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction <the pornography of violence>
(bold added for emphasis)
You could loosely advocate that most of us here use it in the 3rd definition.
Pornography was never intended to be obscene. In fact the first and second definations mention nothing about obscenity. Even though those among us who are attempting to censor the use of the word are associating it with that connotation.
Since this seems to be a sore spot with a few people, I propose the use of a new word I have created.
This new word was created to enable us to describe that super slick Ichiro style, gun-magazine photography. You know what I mean, not your average snapshop or insurance policy photo. The artsy-fartsy kind.
Since we all spew that we are PRO this and PRO that evey chance we get, I propose that the new word to describe this style of firearms photography to henceforth be, PRONOGRAPHY!
Yes PROnography. PROmoting Neat photOGRAPHY. (of PROfessional guN photOGRAPHY)
This style of art, always seems to show firearms in a positive light.
It shows them as a work of art unto themselves. A thing to be respected and admired. Guns are NOT obscene.
Let's take Pronography to new heights and share it with the world.
Lets show the world that Pronography is a GOOD THING. Be it Gun Pronography, Automobile Pronography, or whatever.
What do y'all think?
And the short form should be Prono, or PROno. Never use the word Pron to describe it.
