How about a monthly raffle

If whoever wanted to, kicked in a dollar a month, we could see what we end up with and purchase a rifle or pistol and give it to one of the members who kicked in their dollar. We should have enough guys to get a decent pistol or carbine. If it didn't work out we could wait until we got 4-500 dollars and do it 1 time and that's it. But I think there are enough of us that it would easily afford a decent gun under a thousand dollars in a months time.
It would add a little excitement to our lives, and something to looke forward to at months end. Good, Bad or indifferent?
Of course if you don't pay, you don't play.Could do a Gift certificate to cut down on Legal issues, but a gun is nice to recieve.
As far as what to get, we could draw on that also, take a pole and see what most folks want then have a different one, "of the most popular", each month.
We could also give it to charity or the NRA, as the winner saw fit.
Maybe a poll to see who would be interested if the powers that be, said it was ok?
There are a lot of ways we culd do it, such as if we put a cap on it, we could give out 2 or 3 prizes, this way the odds would be better. Any interest cowboys?

Neat idea, just gotta find a mod willing to take on the extra responsibility. Plus check with Frank on the legal issues.

Unless the mods immediately rule this out and moot the discussion, perhaps create a poll to gauge interest?

When I go to the trap range I always buy a raffle ticket. Just adds a little spice to life. I'd be interested. I can see the logistics of ensuring a fair drawing might cause some headache.

Logistics and getting everyone to be happy and not agrue over the firearm. revolver guys wanting a revolver, glock guys wanting glocks, ect.

I like the idea though

count me in! where do I send my dollar?
Also are we limiting each member to 1 entry per month? I don't think it should be unlimited, maybe see how many want to be a part of it each month and adjust the number of entries available to each member to ensure a decent prize?
one idea might be finding a gun friendly organization to donate some of the money to, then finding a manufacturer to donate the prize or offer a major discount, if you found the right organization, I doubt it would be difficult to find sponsors.
Then it becomes less of a gamble and more of a worthy cause instead of people just giving away a dollar for someone else's gun. Hell I send money to the NRA all the time, having a good shot at winning a gun out of it would be that much more enticing.

I like the idea as well. Perhaps a poll with say 5 different firearms was put up each month on the 15th to run for one week. The winner of that poll is the gun for the next month. That way no one can scream foul.

I think a 50/50 type drawing makes sense with half going to either the NRA or some charity such as the Wounded Warriors fund.

I think it's a good idea. Don't get wraped up over what kind of gun. Pick one, if you don't like the choice, just don't play or sell it if you win.

We'll discuss the idea in Staff, but there's no point in this discussion going any further until THR decides whether the legal and logistical issues can be dealt with properly.

In addition to the BATFE issues are the gambling laws and the logistics of taking money and dealing with the risk of not having enough to pay for the firearm in the drawing, not ignoring the effort that would have to go into it. Remember that it all looks easy when you're volunteering someone else to do work.

***

Too many legal/regulatory issues for THR to do this.
