I'm looking to try out some Kydex. The only holster I can find that will fit my Sig 239 is the Fobus Roto. Has anyone had any experience with these?
Also, how close will it ride to my body?

I like the one i have for my HK. THe roto mechanism makes it stick out a little more from your body than the fixed version, but not enough to be of any consiquence. My buddy successfully carries a glock 19 in his quite often.

I think they are fine for casual use at the range. I wouldn't use one for serious carry.

I have played with one, and I think they have an overlooked purpose. Before you order an expensive holster you can use the Fobus to find the optimal cant for you. Otherwise, I don't think much of them. Don't think the Fobus is kydex either. Injection molded I think.

I noticed it said injection molded which probably means its thicker than Kydex. I sure would like to find a Comp-Tac or even Side Armor to fit my weapon.

I have Fobus paddles, one for P sries and one for BHP. I used one almost exclusively for carry last winter ... currently am toting a revo.

I was actually quite pleased with it overall .... despite many criticisms I have read.

Retention was excellent .. and the paddle let me place it exactly where I wanted ... and not where belts loops dictated!

Draw is IMO a knack ... but needs to be what I call ''inertial'' .. or brisk .. and in line with the rig. This means that if a BG got hold of the piece and just pulled other than straight ---chances are it will not release.

I thought of trying a ''roto'' version but the cant on my paddles is fine, for me.

For the price, they are good value .. but sure don't suit everyone.

I took a minute and found Kydex holsters for the sig 239 from FIST, CompTac and Tactical Tools. Check them out.

I have one and I wouldn't buy another.
As someone said, it is OK for the range but a waste of money if you want to use it for carry then get something else.
Just my $.02.

As i said, i have a friend that carrie his glock 19 in one and it works fine.

I have one for my HK that works perfectly, though i personally wouldn't carry my HK, so it's kind of a moot point. It works just fine at the range.

I don't own a roto Fobus holster, but I do own a few regular Fobus rigs. I want a straight drop holster so the standard one works for me.
My main 1911 open carry holster is a Blade Tec kydex holster. After paying something like $50 for it and using it extensively in both practice and nine days of formal gun schools, I think I wasted my money and should have bought a Fobus.
I personally can see nothing wrong at all with Fobus. If I ever buy another plastic holster, that will be the one I get.

I own about a dozen of them for different guns, and have "torture-tested" them through week-long courses at Thunder Ranch, Chapman Academy, and Mas Ayoob's LFI. They've held up well, and are very comfortable to boot. I sometimes use them for CCW. No problems at all - I like them.

I have two of them, one for a Sig 220 and one for a Government Model .45.

I have nothing but praise for them. Quite a few of the deputys that I work with wear them for off duty carry. They are quick and convenient to place in the waistband.

Awhile back, the subject of retention came up while several of use were hanging out in the deputys lounge.

Naturally they had to prove a point. The question was, how well could it be retained without a strap and would it stand getting rolled around on the ground ?

Two rather big deputys got into a "contest". Of course they unloaded the gun, in this case a .45 Glock. The object was to dislodge the gun. After several minutes of twisting turning and a bit of ground work, the two out of breath and sweating officers gave up. Altough the officer managed to actually grab the grip on several occasions, he never could get it out. Usually the other guy jsut twisted his body, and snapped the gun away from the grip. I have too admit, I didnt think it would pass the test but it did so with flying colors.

I have run after perps and jumped over and crawled trough and under fences. I once jumped a large culvert and slid into it due to slick grass and mud due to rain. I have been in several asswhooping constests with crack heads and stupid drunks that were under the impression that they were Superman. Thus far, I have not lost the gun.

Its kindof a loveor hate relationship. You either like it or you dont. I personally think that they are UGLY, but I cant deny the fact that they work well, and I have come to trust the retention of it. For the money they are hard to beat.

P95 carry said it...its not easy to release by just grabbing for it.

doesn't the FBI or some fed agency issue fobus holsters? i'm not saying this is a good thing or not. i'm just curious.

Short and to the point...

I carry a Glock 23 in a standard (non-Roto) Fobus holster. Very comfortable, excellent retention, price is right. If I had the choice to buy an expensive holster, I'd stick with my Fobus. I like having good retention but not having to worrying about unsnapping my gun if I need it. If you decide to go the Fobus route, check out their mag pouches. They are also excellent.

I have a Fobus paddle I bought to carry a S&W model 10. I was pleasantly surprised at the cheap holster with regards to fit and function, my problem (and why I won't use it for CCW) is that it holds the pistol too far away from the body. This is good for drawing, bad for concealing.

Got one of the belt type rotos for a new P97--economical, experimental plastic holster for an economical, experimental plastic gun.

It kicks the butt of the the gun out further than I would like for a ccw, but carries ok for casual field use. It is surprisingly snatch-proof, but takes quite a bit of a sudden jerk to make the draw properly. Sometimes my tendinitis-achy arms object to that. Generally I don't care for any kind of paddle rig, so got the belt attachment which works very well. It is ugly which is of no account.

I have too many years with my present equipment to be changing, but for the money I think Fobus puts out a pretty darned good product that gets the job done.

the fobus holster is everthing a holster should be. cheap, reliable and simple. ive carried a glock 33 in my fobus for 8 months now and have done everything while wearing and it never fails to do what it was supposed to do, keep my roscoe put. i find that the seas part in the same place though and youll find folks that swear by leather or by kydex. ill put my stock in fobus though, so much that i wont buy a handgun to carry regularly that fobus doesnt make a holster for.

p.s. if anyone from fobus is reading this, a paddle holster for the ruger gp 100 and the taurus m 85 would be great.

I bought a Fobus Roto for my USP compact. It was a huge disappointment. It sticks out too far to conceal worth a damn. The paddle flops around all over the place, not to mention it is inflexible and painful when it digs into my hip. And the holster itself marred the finish of the polymer around the trigger gaurd. It took the finish from the normal matte to a glossy finish that won't go away. Junk in my opinion, but only $20 junk.:barf:

I myself have a fobus rig...I use it for my Makarov..it works fine as a range gun or for work in the yard when I dont want to get my leather holsters "icky"..

It sticks out to far in my opinion to be used as a CCW but it is perfect for the role that I use it in...

One day I might even buy another

But yea...Leather is alot prettier and thankfully most people agree with that statement..otherwise I would starve :D

Megcatia:

I can't believe Comp-Tac doesn't make a holster for your SIG. Try this link:

http://www.comp-tac.com/

Or call direct and talk to Greg (owner). He'll make one and ship it (usually) within 48 hours.

There is no comparison between Fobus and Comp-Tac. Try one of Greg's holsters - and if you don't like it he'll refund your money.

Note: the fobus isnt ideal for people whose bodies resemble pears or potatos. a lot of my larger friends find that they dont sit right on them.:D

I got my dad a fobus roto and dual mag pouch. We ahve used it at the range once or twice, and it does fine. He doesn't carry even though I want thim to, so it will only be used "for real" in a SHTF scenario.

One cool thing aobut Fobus is the mount system they make. I may get one and install it on my car one of these days.
