Does everyone zero their CT laser grips for a particular distance, or does anyone have them parallel to the barrel to make them more predictable over varying distances?
1. Mine are mounted on short-barrel (2") revolvers--carry guns--and SD scenarios with these guns typically involve distances less than the sight-in distance.
2. The parallax issues, while real, are really not relevant to self-defense shooting at closer distances.
Note that an a priori assumption here is that such shooting by civilians is typically not done at distances beyond 15 yards.
Since my purpose for having handguns is strictly HD/SD, I practice weekly at 5-10 yards. As for how I sight in my CT grips (on my 686+, 637 and Browning High Power), I point the handgun at the wall about fifteen feet away, and adjust the red dot until it sits on top of the front sight. For my purposes this works perfectly. I often get to see the red dot on the target turn into a black hole. Each time I change batteries, I double check the sight picture. I have seldom had to adjust it. And i agree with someone above about Crimson Trace's customer service: outstanding.
I have mine zeroed at 10 yds. I estimate approx. 1" maximum error anywhere from muzzle to 20 yds using this zero, and I'm probably not going to be shooting in a self-defense situation anywhere near 20 yds.
