How can I tell if my SKS is a chinese or russian?

My SKS has the Bayonet on the front and I was told that the ones with the bayonets were the Russian models and the ones without the bayonet were the chinese....Is this correct? if not what is the difference?
Are there any problems known with this rifle? Thanks! drf

Since it's a removable part, don't go by the bayonet, go by the markings; if you can post a picture of any markings, I can guarantee you'll have your answer within 5 minutes.

No Chinese markings.....Its a Russian even though it didnt shoot well after the 5th of Vodka I poured dont the barrel.........drf

If it drinks the vodka, it's Russian.
If it complains that the rice is too cold and that the vodka isn't cold enough, it has had too many American parts installed on it.

'52 russian distinguishing mark

My 1952 russian has a star with an arrow inside on top of the rear reciever cover. Below the star is printed 1952r. on the rear of the same piece is the #'s that match. Ive been told that all russian made sks's have the star. unfortunetly there are alot of available replacements for that piece. if your gun has a replacement on it, it may be hard to tell. Also mine is printed 7.62x39 Russian on the front right of the barrel below the import marks.

There are plenty of other types of SKS' too from Romanians, Albanians, Yugoslavian and a whole host of other countries that used them.

The only Chinese SKS' without bayonets that came into the country that way were ones imported between 1990 and 1993, after Bush banned military like features on imported firearms which just happened to include bayonets. So when they were removed they were legal again. Other features of course include high capacity removable magazines, folding stocks, distinct trigger handles, night sights, grenade launchers a whole list of other stuff, since they belonged to the whole must ban every firearm without a clear sporting purpose way of thinking.
