How can thIs be (holster question)?

Hi,

I've been looking at this type of Tagua holster for a few days now:

In the description it says it can be used to carry a 1911 as well as a tiny Ruger LCP.

How can this be possible? If this is so, wouldn't the 1911 be too tight of a fit or the LCP too loose?

And if it covers the trigger on the LCP, wouldn't the trigger on a 1911 be exposed?

Does anybody here own one so I can get some first hand info on it?

"One Size Fits All" holsters basically never fit any gun well.

That's a gun HOLDER, not a true gun HOLSTER.

Spend some money and buy a GOOD HOLSTER.

(and disregard any rube that chimes in saying how he's had one for x years and it's never given him a problem...)

It can't be, get holsters designed for the gun you want to carry, I laugh pretty hard at holsters labeled "medium automatic" ... that description is beyond ludicrous. Either they're serious (and idiots) ... or they're fishing for suckers by putting lots of models and the word "holster" in their description.

If you are interested that type of holster look up Yaqui Slides. Be sure you buy one with a tention screw. I carry a Kimber UCC II in one all the time and I like it. Mine is designed to carry all 1911 type handguns and works well with either my Kimber or full sized Colt 1911. Mine is made by Gould & Goodrich (Part no. B801-195)

The advertiser is, at best, mistaken. That type of holster - often called a "Yaqui Slide" - can fit a number of handguns that have the same general dimensions and shape in the part that actually goes in the holster. But I find it hard to believe that a Ruger LCP and a 1911 are that close in dimensions. I would expect the LCP to almost fall through it until the grip stopped it. Furthermore, that holster cannot possibly be worn inside your waistband. Where would you put your belt? It could, with the belt slots facing out, be worn between your belt and pants, or with them turned in, on the outside of your belt. "Yaqui Slides" have other disadvantages as well.

The biggest thing that I don't like about slide type holsters is that the muzzle end of the pistol is left uncovered. Not only can the muzzle end get banged up on stuff, but, when you sit down, the gun can get pushed up out of the holster.

Yes, that is one of their disadvantages. As well, I personally don't care for exposed slides and muzzles. If your cover garment - which must be long in the first place - rides up, people will see, well, an exposed slide and muzzle instead of the bottom of the holster.

One of the most important things a holster does is protect the muzzle of your pistol from dings.

Ding the crown and your accuracy goes away.

Gun Holder

I fell for one of those and I can say don't if you do any kind of real athletic type activity. The gun will have a tendency to work up and out of the holder. Just speaking from experience.
