I get .15/rd.

I got about 6,000 very clean + pulled ss109 @ 180/3000 so, 360/6000.
Varget, 16.00/lb, I buy 10lbs so, 160.00 (25gr per, so that's about 280 loads, $15/280)
Primers, 26.00/1k
brass- free

Lets see..

360/6000 = .06
16/280 = .06
26/1000 = .03 (rounded up)

That works out to .15 a round..

I could get it cheaper if I dropped the load # a bit to 23.5 this works for me as well out of my rifle. I'd get about 18 more loads out of it but that is like what, a negible difference in the grand scheme of things.. Also if I bought wolf primers at 90/5k then it'd drop even further, same if I went with 55gr fmj's, unfortunately my rifle hates 'em.

Sorry for the long winded post but in short, local shops that are good in the business rocks, and RELOADING ROCKS!!! Bah @ buying factory rounds $400 for 1000 *shudder* First 1k reloaded, you save the cost of the equipment and then some..!

A couple of years ago you could by milsurp loaded 223 for a dime a round. I didn't.

Cheapest bullets I've seen lately are the Federal 55FMJBT at Graf's for $8/100 shipped. Varget for $16? Wow. If I was you, I wouldn't share my source.

I can say that I load 75gr match ammo for $25/box less than Federal Gold Medal Match. That's cheap.

Unfortunately for me, I came into the scene a bit late to ge ton the cheap milsurp stuff :( The source is a local shop here, bulk discount, if I buy 10 lbs + so I do. :)

Match loads

Hornady 55g fmj boat tail at Midway $72 per thousand plus $5 shipping
8 pounds of Titegroup -- Edit: Oops, I mean Benchmark -- at the gun show for $127 (25.0 grains per charge)
5000 SR primers for $107 at gun show
Brass is free.

15.5 cents per round. That's my load for USPSA 3-gun match. For the long range stage at 330 yards, this load shoots a 6 inch group from a 16" barrel.

.223 Bullets

Good Bullets cost more than 14 cents each. Since I want 10x hits pertaining to what I aim at, I seldom skimp on powder or primers. Since my .223 Rifle thrives on RL-10x and magnum primers, I've already exceeded 50 cents per round. Handloading to me is not about saving pennies. I shoot about 40 rounds per range use three-times a week. If I ever added this up dollarwise, I'd perhaps see how my wife may be right. I'm an addict, but my groups may astound some. One lives; one shoots; one dies, and the winner produces the tightest groups. My car gets 27 mpg, and it's only eight miles to my range. Save gas, Not bullets is my fort'e. Cliffy
