post title pretty much says it all, I've completely dissembled 1911's before many times to do build work but i must admit this is my first 1911 with ambidextrous safety. anyone know how to take the pt1911 thumb safety off so i can go in and polish it up.

i was wondering this too. mine is loose and after firing a couple mags, the right side almost falls out. anyone know how this ambi safety is secured? is mine broken or loose?

Well I've always disassembled them by taking off the grips, mainspring housing, etc . . .but if it's like a standard ambi-safety I think you can take it off (the right hand side) just by taking off the right grip panel. Purely a guess as I don't have a Taurus PT1911 but I don't know why they'd have gone non-standard.

Regards,
Dave
