Excuse the extreme naive-ness of this question. I've googled it and tinkered around with the Colt 1851 Navy Revolver and cannot figure out how the heck to remove the cylinder. Can anyone point to a good step-by-step instruction guide for breaking down this firearm?

Notice that the barrel is held to the frame only by the barrel wedge. It can go one way, to the left. Use a plastic or brass hammer or a wooden hammer handle and rap it to the left. It should come all the way out or just be held slightly by the barrel screw, guns vary. Put the hammer at half cock and rotate the cylinder so that the reloading lever can push against the front of the cylinder. The barrel will slide forward and come off. You can now slide off the cylinder.

Of course your doing this with an empty gun:)
