How do I "scope" an 1858 Remington Carbine?

Several years ago I saw an 1858 Remington Carbine (repro of course),,,
That had a slender brass scope (maybe 3/4") mounted on it.

If I recall correctly the mounts sort of "clamped" on the top strap,,,
Similar to how one would mount a scope on a 3/8" groove.

I own one of the carbine repros and am buying a .44 special cylinder for it,,,
I would love to scope it out like the one I saw years ago.

Does anyone have any idea of how to find scope mounts and that style of brass scope?

Thanks in advance,,,

My guess is that you need to find a machinist or a gunsmith with fairly significant machining experience. I’m thinking this mount is going to be fully custom.

Most old school gunsmiths will be able to do this, they may elect not to do it for you, but someone a step or two up from an AR parts-swapper should be able to do it.

Old style scopes should be fairly readily available. Check out the re-enactment folks and see what they use for sharpshooter rifles. My first instinct says to check out Track of the Wolf or Dixie Gun Works.

Hit the high Lux hyper link above, go to the 17" short Malcom scope and see the un drilled bases for it under "Short malcom scopes bases"

Thanks for your replies gentlemen,,,
I appreciate your help.

It look like this is just a pipe dream for me,,,
It would cost more than the rifle to scope it,,,
Even if suitable mounts could be found for the thing.

I've had this carbine hanging on my wall for many years now,,,
I haven't fired it since I gave up black powder many years ago.

I'm enamored by the "Steampunk" look,,,
I have seen several 1858 Remmies modified to that end,,,
I've even dabbled in making steampunk holsters for friends to wear.

I thought the carbine would make a great functional steampunk shooter,,,
But it looks like nothing would be affordable on my budget.

Thanks though.
